Thanks Guys,
You've more or less confirmed what I thought about Aqualung. I'm definately leaning towards the Apex tx40. The way I see it, my LDS should be able to service it no problem, even if I can't get it from there. Being a Aqualung dealer, getting parts shouldn't be an issue. Make sense?

So where's the cheapest place to get a tx40?

Darryl

I have a dealer who's prices are tough to beat anywhere in the world. Send me a private message, and I'll give you his contact info.

i have been using a conshelf since the 80's (a used one at that) and a calypso before that- and an aquarius before that. i still use the conshelf today.

the only time the conshelf ever needed serious servicing was to replace a worn out high pressure seat. the rig was used and abused any which way you can imagine.

the reliability can't be faulted. the next evolution of my rig will be a return to the brass 2nd stage. i use a micra now but after seeing a plastic second stage crack after an unremarkable collision with hard object i started to miss the bulletproof, armored character of brass.

other regs? maybe someday. the thing just won't quit. besides, having dived since 78 i've come to realize that "name brand" regs are fairly reliable all around. the differences are more apparent when you increase the anount of challenge in your diving. sportsways, dacor, tusa, scubapro, heck even nemrod, etc. i typically go down to 110 ft in tropical waters.

also, talk to a dive instructor you trust.

enjoy.

My fiance has 2 conshelf set-ups, I could check to find out for sure. I think he's had one of them for almost 20 years, the other he found at a garage sale a couple years ago and it was nicer than (though probably just as old as) the one he was using. He may be looking to upgrade because he doesn't have enough ports for his dry suit hose. Was thinking about telling him about the Zeagle trade-in deal going on but if any conshelf buffs would be interested he might sell.

I have tried a conshelf and it is a good reliable reg, no knobs, I think the long exhaust ports on the second stage may be responsible for an apparant higher exhale effort, though it may be down to service adjustment. I also had to trim the inside of the yoke to get it to go on some modern cylinder valves.
