The buoy is current and past data not a weather forecast based upon atmospheric conditions barometric pressure, etc.
I normally look at what is happening with the buoys before going. Since if the data says wind less than 5 knots or coming from the E vs NW and wave height less than 4 feet then the conditions are pretty near perfect.
If the wind and seas are 20-25 knots in the afternoon and seas 10 feet the day before I go, I would assume poor vis. But this is not necessarily the case.
Sunday evening Mar 30 Bodega/Point Arena Buoys 25kt+ gusts/seas 10'+. Tuesday Apr 1 Abalone Season opens with 25'+ vis.
Monterey Bay bad conditions and vis April 19/20. Carmel Stillwater Cove relatively good conditions and vis Apr 19/20.
