It would be great if there was an app for this forum (if there isn't already, I couldn't find one).

If there's an open API I could use, I'd happily make a free one if people were interested.

Honestly, the mobile version of Scubaboard is pretty good for a forum, especially one that has been around for so long. I feel like I have so many apps on my phone these days, kind of nice to change it up. I see your point about notifications, but rarely is there something so pressing on here that I want to see pop-up notifications on my phone.

It used to be tapatalk compatible and it was great. That died when they changed to current software.

Keep in mind that if an app were created there would need to be two versions: iOS and Android. Getting the iOS version on the appStore is a lot of work including, last time I looked, the requirement that you test on a Mac or virtual Mac. For the Android version, you would have to get it on Google Play or have a place to host the apk to be downloaded. Also, all the different screen types and sizes must be considered.

Frankly, the mobile version which runs on any browser and any device is quite satisfactory.

It’s not that bad anymore. There are plenty of cross-platform frameworks you could use to develop one app and compile it for both android and iOS. The same goes for supporting different screen sizes, reactive design is essentially a solved problem now.

I won’t argue publishing to the App Store on iOS is way more awkward than it should be though, dealing with that for another app I’ve made atm.

I’m also not saying the mobile version is unusable or this is a critical thing that has to happen. Just that it would be a nice to have and that, if they could give me an API to hit, I’d happily make the app myself. I just don’t fancy trying to parse the server-side generated HTML that seems to be the current setup.

You're right, it is. I'd still rather have a native app though with notifications etc.
If you want notifications on a certain thread, etc., set up email notifications in the “watch” tool.
