If you would like to learn more about the volcanic bubbles which you can see underwater in Apo Island, please check out this interview with my friend Jeffrey Munar, who is a marine geologist at one of the Philippines' best geology labs, at the University of the Philippines, Dilliman, Marine Science Institute. He talks about the kind of gases which bubble out, and the way these bubble fields develop:

 
Interesting. I saw those same bubbles emerging from beneath some huge Acropora Hyacinthus corals in Apo Island. Did not seem to inhibit their growth?

Yes, there are some bubbles from below the reef, I suspect that it's a matter of dosage. The area with a lot of corals has little life but for some sea cucumbers.
