G'day all

I've got an Apeks atx50 with a DST (yoke) first stage and I was wondering if it was possible to convert the yoke to a DIN. I see there are places that sell an adapter but I would like some advice on whether it is better to just get another first stage, is it an Apeks made adapter, does it void the Apeks warranty, does anyone have any experience using the yoke to DIN adapter, etc?

Here's a link to what I'm referring to

Thanks, David

PS - I'm using the LeisurePro link for illustration purposes only. I'm an LDS kind of guy.

Dave,
I just converted my ATX50 to DIN. It is very simple to do. I don't think there is a yoke to DIN adapter (the leisurepro link didn't work). I converted to DIN and use a DIN to Yoke converter since my main tank is a DIN HP 120. Good luck.

David--

What you're looking at there is a converter, not just an adapter (like ScubaCrow said, I don't think there's such a thing as a yoke-to-DIN adapter -- because of the yoke's pressure rating, and its physical shape).

With the converter, You competely remove the yoke assembly from your first stage, and install the DIN converter fitting in its place. The result is identical to that if you had bought the 300-bar DIN version of the reg in the first place -- the pressure rating has to do with the fitting, not the reg itself. Except then you'd also have the yoke fitting to install back if you're on vacation somewhere diving where they only have tanks with yoke-type valves.

Is the converter made by Apeks? I'd expect and assume so.

Is it grey-market through LeisurePro? Almost certainly.

How would it affect the Apeks warranty? If you buy the converter from an authorized dealer with an Apeks warranty, there'd be no issue. Otherwise, if grey-market, it's an interesting question -- but should only be applicable if the converter itself failed... or caused something else to fail. Pretty unlikely, since it's like three chunks of solid metal and some o-rings.

Somewhere around $50 is about right for DIN converters of any brand. If your LDS charges you significantly more, well...

I ordered two yoke Mares regulators from ScubaToys, asking them to add and install DIN converters and of course provide the yokes back to me. I had a local shop install a DIN converter on another old Sherwood reg.

And I installed one myself, on yet another new Sherwood reg. Absolutely no problem, as long as you have a wrench with jaws that will fit inside the yoke to loosen the large nut... and with jaws thin enough to then get in under the DIN fitting's knurled wheel. I used a wooden bench vise, since the Sherwood nut extended far enough out for the vise to get a grip on it. And I think I used a thin emergency bicycle wrench on the DIN fitting.

no yoke to din - convert it (easy enough) to din and than you use a yoke adaptor when needed.
