When I worked in a shop I ran into several (that were sold by other shops) that leaked at 60'. Some we "fixed" by detuning, others we put on either an XTX 20 or a Legend octo. By far the XTX or Legend octo worked better as a fix. We did what made the customer happier.

How glad I looked at this thread. I remembered I have an AL ABS that I have barely touched. I HATE it - BUT it has a 40" hose on it that I just needed and didn't have. Yeah!

I totally forgot I had the reg because it was force-sold to me when I started diving, and I only used it briefly because I thought it sucked. (Anyone who loves it, gimme $20 an it's yours - without the hose!) I am sure mine is tuned sucky but it's also the shape that I find awkward in mouth, and whatever is said about Egress being better, I would still always opt for another XTX or Legend octo myself.

What about Calypso/Titan octo? Its MSRP about as much as Apeks Egress - is that a good option? Thanks.

I am not sure if this will work with the increasing IP of an over-balanced reg. I don't believe so. The Titan LX uses the same first stage as the Mikron, not the Legend therefor it is balanced not over-balanced. The over-balancing comes from the first stage not the 2nd.

Then its between Apeks Egress and XTX20 I guess ($175 and $180 respectively)...

Mike,
The Titan LX second stage is the same as the Legend. The Calypso/Titan octo is the same as the simple downstream second of the regular Titan. It is a very reliable and good breathing second.

Snowflake,
The overbalancing is a function of adding a dry environmental seal to a diaphragm first stage. At recreational depths, this "overbalancing" has no significant effect on ease of breathing, but advertising types jump on it as a sales point.

Do you mean Legend LX with Apeks DST first stage?

No it is not the legend lx, it is the titan oct. all the titans and balanced regs. so this set up works perfect with the apeks dst first stage. It breaths better than the atx 50 reg., i use my titan supreme first stage with the oct. reg.
