I am over spec'ing by buying a XTX200.
I've used Apeks as my regulator of choice for a number of years. They've performed exceptionally well at various depths & conditions including under Arctic ice without malfunction. Excellent choice!

I am over spec'ing by buying a XTX200.
Mine was purchased a little more than a year ago but now that I look at it you are right. For some reason I've been thinking the Breath Control had something to do with the way you can change the hose to come in on the other side. Now I suppose someone will tell me that this reg doesn't do that. I'm confused but glad to hear I was wrong about the adjustment.Hmm, my XTX50 (2nd stage) has TWO adjustments; Venturi (dive/pre-dive), and Breathe Control. Also, 4 LP and 2 HP port. It's a newer one, if that matters ??
Excuse my ignorance but assuming I bought the typical 2012 APEKS XTX50 yoke first and second, where does that first stage fit into the three categories above?.
They have 3 basic 1st stages styles.
The US1, DS1, US4, DS4, UST and DST.
The FST.
The FSR.
The main difference between the 1st stages is the number and position of the hose ports and with or without enviro seal.
The FST and FSR have a slightly higher flow rate than the others.
........all excellent regulators and amongst the most reliable ever made.

The second stages are almost identical. The 40 is without an adjuster or wide port (as standard), the 50/100/200 are identical (other than the decals).
As far as the 1st stages are concerned, the DS4 and DST have similar performance. The FSR and FST have identical performance but lab tests show they have a lower crack pressure (ease of breathing) than the DST and the DS4. The DST/DS4 perform adequately, but the FSR/FST designs are more ideally suited to deep diving or work conditions.
The service kits are identical. Performance increases are attributable to the change in internal design flow within the first stages.
