I have a legend lx supreme, 4 ds4/atx50 combos and have tried the atx 200 as well.

Out of all of them the legend is my favorite performer.

For value you can't beat the ds4/atx50. The 200 is not mechanically superior although it may be subjectively so since it's owners spent quite a few more dollars for the brushed metal second stag knobs, first stage finish and extra hp port.

You do not notice any difference in the performance of the 200 at depth compared to the DS4? also what depths are these?

Assuming I can get both serviced equally well and the price is close, is there any reason to preffer the Apeks at40 or at50 over the Aqualung Legend or Legend LX? If I read the specs I don't see much difference
but maybe someone here has actualy used both.

Thanks for all the comments. You have comfirmed what I thought -- that the Apeks and Legend are very comparable. I think what is going to make the decision here is price. A local shop is offering the ATX50 for $370 and will include the first two years of service for free.
The comparable Lengend (the LX supream) is $100 more.

Now to choose an octo. Strictly rec. depth limit. I'd pick the AT20. But a local service tech says the plain old Aqualung Titan (not the Titan LX) has "half the moving parts" I'm leaning to the AT20 however unless someone can tell me why I want the AT40. Local water temp is a minimum of 55F.

Does the sherwood maximus breathe as good as these 2 regs

You're kidding, right???

SHerwood really tries, they do. But, you cant compare a Sherwood to an Apeks or even the Legend.

No, stick with the AT20 as opposed to the 40. I would say that the LX octo would be unnecessarily more expensive than the AT20 as it does have the heat sink. It doesn't matter really.
As for your decision about the 50 or the Legend, if money is not an issue I think that you would like the Legend. Not that the 50 isn't a good reg.
