hello
But is there any significant difference in ease of breathing and
Cold water specifications?
And which one is easier for doubles ATX100 or the DS4?And not the tx50 please. I meant the DS4. because i dont want swivel.

NO NO NO! Unless you are a machine the

100
DS4
DST

All breathe EXACTLY the same - yer talkin to a guy who's got a nickname wheezy for a reason and am pretty sensitive to breathing resistance - NO DIFFERENCE

The 100 simply has angled ports for easier routing if you run doubles

The DS4 has no turret and no 1/2" port

The DST is the standard 1'st stage with the 50 - it has the 1/2" port and a swivel turret

As far as second stages go... if you buy the ATX 50, it's actually smaller and lighter than the TX 100 second and is designed for use in "frigid" water..

The only setup I have not tried yet (jonsing to soooo bad) is the new ATX200 which from what I hear is amazing - I say it's just hype and for double the price I seriously doubt you get double the performance....

Good Luck :D

http://www.diveinn.com sells the ATX50 with a DS4 and ATX40 Octo for $370 delivered to the United States

The ATX200 with ATX40 for $ 595 - it sure looks cool though ;)

Hello
is there any difference between the TX50 and the TX100 in breathing performance? Which one is better? Other things that should be aware of?

thanks, xerxes

I sure can't tell the difference in breathing performance. I have all three first stages. My favorite is the DS4 because:

It doesn't have a turret
Uses all standard ports
Great track record among other technical divers
Cheaper than the others

But is there any significant difference in ease of breathing and Cold water specifications? And which one is easier for doubles ATX100 or the DS4?

No distinguishable difference in cold water performance. Theoretically, the slightly bigger heat exchanger in the TX100 should make it a better cold water reg, but I don't buy it. I just went diving today again with my TX50/DS4 in 34F water -- no problem. The TX100 has done fine in cold water too.

The TX100 first stages definately route a bit better for doubles. Unfortunately, unless you use argon exclusively, you're stuck dealing with the 1/2" port on the left post. I chose to go with DS4's for everything (back gas, stages, deco bottles, argon) as a matter of familiarity and interchangability. Maybe someday, I'll pick up a set of TX100 firsts for my doubles -- who knows, I like my DS4's.

I, too, believe the ATX200's first stage is mostly hype. The ATX50 is virtually identical to the ATX200 second stage (again the heat exchanger is supposedly bigger in the 200  ). I'll see (not soon enough) if the ATX50 is significantly smaller/lighter.

Regardless which second stage you choose, I'm sure you'll be very happy with it. As for first stages, I would recommend the DS4.

Take care.

Mike
