More „theory“ in here — I’d recommend checking these threads put

I realized that i followed this… lever level to face plate. Although i remember now over hauling anither reg a month ago. That is before levelling the lever to face plate. I had the lever above the rim by about
1-1.5mm. That reg would free flow if i depressed while the mouthpiece was facing up.

As for the micro adjust. I would usually set it initially about 1-2mm pushing in.

Would all these be a better setup? Lever 1-1.5mm above rim and micro adjust pushing in about 1-1.5mm?

My intuitive guess is yes
Max lever height = max responsiveness

Eitherway you should end up with the same WoB

So basically we want the lever exactly touching the purge diaphragm when its installed?

You don’t want „lever rattle“, basically a dead space where the diaphragm has to go a bit of distance before it engages the lever

You also don’t want the opposite (lever is too high that the purge button is always pressing it); but I think that case is impossible with the xTX family

Ok to sum it up…

Lever 1.5mm above case… more or less. Touching the purge disphragm but not depressed by purge diaphtagm while at rest

Micro adjust pusged in about 1-1.5mm

Depress purge everytime adjusting orifice - does this still apply. Read this somewhere

Thanks for all the help. Everybody is probably frowning why im taking tuning lessons online instead of seeking out the person who trained me. Welll he passed away early this year. Took his class 2024 but my regulators were still running fine…. A week after he passed … my reg started hissing / freeflowing 😬😬😬. Like one after the other 😬. Singles reg , doubles reg , deco regs 😬😬😬

So here i am trying to recollect everything i was taught. Actually the original plan was overhaul my reg in his shop. And ask for guidance… a nice fellow who wont mind if i did that after class

Sorry about your loss, sucks losing friends in the diving world
Well.. I’ve learned it all online — there’s a great DIY community here on SB
(But mostly @rsingler online class; if you wanna do a nice refresher that involves lots of theory behind the practice I highly recommend you reach out to him)

Yes absolutely yes (going in) — going out (unloading) should be alright (but doesn’t hurt to be safe anyways)

yea he left so suddenly. you know the type you’re just video calling on Tue evening saying “see you on saturday” and boom wed lunch he’s gone.

the community like depended on him for overhaul and tuning. there are others who overhaul regs but not the way he does it. learned a lot… and some people are hoping i could tune their regs in the future the way he does it. But i should have started overhauling regs right away. sometimes when you dont use the skill right away, you lose it 🫣

i will look him up thanks… might be a wee bit difficult with the time zone. Im in Asia 🫣😂

i took apart the 2nd stage again... and realized something.

the square whole wear the lever goes in . is in a way offset in 1 direction. reviewed the manuals.

looking a it side view. the lever facing up... the square notch should be on the lower side same as the pin it should be in the lower side.
I assembled it with the notch offset top, pin offset top.

i didnt' expect something like this would matter?

anyway reassembled... haven't tuned the breathing yet... but voila... free flow!
