Like the other posts, I see that Apeks regs are top notch. We even had the local rep in the dive shop I use to do a PowerPoint dog and pony show. Many of my buddies use them and swear by them. I use ScubaPro, but that's another story.............

Call your VISA and tell them your story. That should get their customer service to stand up and take notice quite fast. Good luck.

They offered to replace the reg And give him store credit for the shipping costs. He just doesn't want to wait for it. He apparently had something to dive with before. He mentioned Mares. He knows there is a long ship time, but is impatient. Again, a bad decision. I would have them replace it. Replacement was the need to begin with, or he wouldn't have griped about it. What other outcome did he want? So now he will need to live with his choice and not complain.
I see this with people all the time. They buy things they don't know anything about because it is on sale. They find something doesn't work and then complain when the offer of replacement and fees covered is extended. This is not uncommon. I see it all the time. And then they are too upset to take the simple and right solution.

OP, I am not trying to flame you, but I am always very straightforward, and I treat people like they are adults. I do not candy coat or coddle. I think you can handle grown up discussion and constructive criticism. I pointed out your flawed logic and your mistakes. We all make them, and most of us don't want to acknowledge that. The important thing is to acknowledge, correct, and learn from your mistakes.
You made a bad purchase decision. Then, when there was a problem, you should have waited the time and replaced the thing or told them to send you the xtx100 or 200. No status. That should be do-able. You will love the 100 or the 200. Take the time and wait for the full resolution. Do not settle and then always have a bad taste in your mouth. You will be very happy and have a reg that will last a lifetime. Good luck and I hope it all works out.

I would suggest to them that they bill you for a new reg and have it shipped out to you then refund you the cost of the second reg when they receive your first (defective) one. Apple's warranty (computers) is great for that (I think they don't even bill you unless you fail to return the product in a given amount of time).

Never hurts to at ask anyway.

This is the best option, if the shop will do it. I know that ScubaToys.com will do this, and they have customers from around the world.

mhoneth, glad to see you came back. Not saying you are troll, but the hit-and-run bash thread is common for troll types. I can understand you might not have the best internet service. I know from my time in Iraq just how bad that service can be. I hope you have the best luck in exchanging your reg, if that is what you choose to do. Try ScubaToys next time you need to purchase something.

That's exactly what they should do, IMO. Authorize the cost of the replacement reg on a VISA card and ship it to him (don't charge the card yet, just reserve the credit amount) and then have him return the problem regulator and cancel the authorization after it shows up.

Apeks are the best Regs i've ever used - supremely reliable and whenever I have emailed them i've had a response within half an hour making sure my question is answered and that everything in general is ok and if they can be of any help let them know.
Again - UK navy etc use these and the guys I know swear by them - hence my original purchase :-)

I now sacrifice clothes on my trip to make sure I have these regs with me :)

If you need regs for your work, why are you not learning about how regs work? It is like learning to drive a car and not knowing how to check the oil. An IP gauge is essentially the same as checking your oil and tire pressures. Read the post about regulator checklist. Any extra gizmo on a reg is an extra failure point. If my IP gauge fails, I simply throw it out and buy a new one. A reg having an electronic IP monitor is the same as a car's Tire pressure monitor system... more often than not, a light coming on, means a tire pressure sensor has failed.

I have been diving the Apeks ATX50 and love it...it has the external mechanical adjustment and I have shops all over my area to repair and dial in anything I need. I personally have never had to deal with Apeks directly but have found that the dive shops have direct troubleshooting numbers to get what they need to fix any problem. Give me some details and if you like I can call my guy and see what he can do. He is very good with the Apeks line. Steve

I just bought my first Apeks reg (XTX100 Status). I live and work in the Marshall Islands with no shops, technicians or service centres less than 2,000 miles from here. I have been diving Mares almost exclusively, but heard that Apeks was famous for reliability and quality. I would have avoided the Status electronic gimmicks, but the reg was on sale so I bought it.
Shipping was prompt, opened the box, installed the 1st stage, and no M.P. reading! Did a few checks, read the instructions, eventually tested the battery. All good. But still not working. I've been emailing Apeks regularly but they won't reply to me. Not even an auto-response.
Now I know I could still dive the Apeks without a working Status, but why should I trust the reg when I can't trust the indicator?
Moral of my story:
1) stay away from unecessary gimmicks like regulator electronics;
2) be aware of Apeks...their reputation is not warranted.

Well being in a simillar but not that bad situation (Thailand, most shops don't know anything) I try to keep things simple. MP Reading is pointless and if you need it put a mechanical gauge there.

As well on every purchase (mostly in Germany and Austria) I ask the shop if they can test that device before shipping. I don't care if it arrives not brand new. Most don't do, but they tested my uwatec computer at different pressures for free.

Btw.: I have very bad experience with Mares as their partner don't honor any warranty if bought in a other country.
