Ok. In my shopping, I was just about set on the Apeks ATX50,
when I walked into a shop and was talking to him.

So here's my new question... Apeks ATX50, or the Poseidon
Cyklon. The Apeks'll be about $50 more.

-Jeff

A Cyklon was recently found laying on the bottom of the ocean in the UK. When taken into a shop & hooked up to air, the darn thing was still in working condition after being submerged in saltwater for over 2 years.
They did an annual service on it anyway.
:D

Those little ATX regulators are bubble machines. Will give a bit of a chin flapping. I would get a TX second stage or go over to the Jetstream side breather.

I'd take the Apeks any day of the week for 99% of my diving. If I did a lot of very cold dives (less than 35F), I'd want a set of Posiedons. I no longer have any Odins.

Being as I'm still diving wet, I'm staying around 40-60F, however
I know I probably won't make it through another winter without
going dry...

I understand that the Odin has some cracking issues, but the guy
I was talking to stated that the Cyklon doesn't have the same
issues on that front. He told me that without a doubt, the Apeks
is an excellent product, but compared to Poseidons, everything is
second best.

That's actually why I brought it to the list. If he actually still sold
Apeks, I'd be more apt to trust him, but seeing as he doesn't, I'm
trying to determine sales pitch vs. real information.

-Jeff

Sounds like a classic sales pitch :D. IMO, the Posiedon's show their colors in extremely cold water and that's about it. Otherwise, I find them to be horribly uncomfortable and awkward. They don't breath better than the Apeks either. For the temps you are describing, a Posiedon isn't needed, IMO.

Good luck,

Mike

Apeks all the way if you ask me. Even in the cold, apeks perform VERY well. I dive pretty darn cold water low 40's - Apeks perform perfectly.

Considering size/weight/COMFORT... Apeks is the way

The two other things I forgot to mention about the Poseidon.

1) With the DIN 1st stage and the yoke converter, it gives me a
plus in that I don't need a new first stage if I end up moving
towards DIN tanks. The minus is another point of failure on the
1st stage.

2) "If you buy it, dive it, and don't love it, I'll give you your money
back".

-Jeff

Apeks has the same thing... and can EASILY be converted to a permanent DIN or Yoke... either way, for CHEAP....

Is the "increased" bubble interference of the ATX50 second, compared to the TX50, really all that important / noticable?
Does the lighter weight of the ATX justify it over the TX?

I'm still waiting on my ATX50/DS4, and have dived neither - but am very curious on comparisons from folks who know.
