Regarding number two. Dive it and take an Apeks with you at the same time. The differences are significant, IMO.

Regarding number one. You'll find that the adaptor will bring the first stage too close to your head. I hate adaptors. I'd rather convert the reg.

Good luck,

Mike

Does the lighter weight of the ATX justify it over the TX?

I'm still waiting on my ATX50/DS4, and have dived neither - but am very curious on comparisons from folks who know.

There is slightly more bubble interference, but not enogh to worry about, IMO. When I was swimming, I didn't notice any bubbles from either reg. The only time I noticed bubbles was when I was vertical. The difference wasn't significant and I would consider both as normal for bubble interference. The weight difference is noticable. Is the ATX50 worth the extra money.......? I'm kinda shrugging my shoulders. They're both fine regs. I like the ATX50 for it's weight reduction, but I like the TX50 too.

You did fine with your choice.

Pretty much a second. I'd been diving the TX100 for several months and just recently purchased an ATX50

The bubbles are actually better than MOST other regs, it's just that they have slightly more interference that the OLD tx line. IF you do a comparison of the two it's obvious as to why... the TX line had these CRAZY huge exhaust ports that swept off the sides.

They ditched them because they were so large that they were causing excess drag (which is really not much) but it caused jaw fatigue... also the reason for the lightening of the regs.

I'm way happy I went with the ATX and the difference in bubble interference is only noticeable when in a verticle position, which is just about NEVER for me, and it doesn't bother me anyway. HOWEVER the weight difference and more streamlined design is noticeable right off the bat, and even more noticeable after a few days of consecutive diving when your jaw doesn't hurt; which by the way is one of the reasons I don't like Poseidon's.... the odd shape and orientation of the exhaust would leave my jaw aching after a lot of dives.

Just my opinion and you know what they say about those :D

I'm not sure I can get my hands on an Apeks with the same sort of deal [i.e. try it and return it if you don't like it].

Ahh... excellent point. I'm going to have to look at the size comparison. I'll never forget that welt on the back of my head from a first stage the first time I did step-in entry into the pool! :bonk: [although that was related to a BC a little too big]

A Scuba Pro would be a similar reg to an Apeks as far as size, weight, and breathability. See if you can get a SP to take with you.

The din to yoke adapter moves the reg closer to the back of the head only the depth of the thread on the DIN valve, about 1/2" - 5/8" max.

Wanna see a sweet new Poseidon 1st stage? They're releasing a new reg next month, the design of the critter could win prizes in an art show:

The only issue with those new Poseidon 1st stages is it doesn't fit into a typical recreational config... 1 HP and 2 LP ports. Great for some technical setups, but not so much for your typical single tank single 1st stage setup.

Bubble interference is my big pet peeve! I used to dive the USD Micra ADJ because I liked how tiny it was. But the bubble interference is bad. So, I test-drove the Apeks TX-50 and both the newer ATX models. I found the Apeks TX 50 was great for eliminating bubbles--even when vertical...which divers are when taking many kinds of photos.

Now I have my Apeks TX50 as my primary, and my Micra ADJ as my octo in case I want to switch to the lighter, lower-drag Micra when the current is strong!

Good luck!

Finally talked to the LDS that actually sells both Poseidon and
Apeks. Actually he _was_ starting to drift away from Poseidon
because they were just too damn expensive. After talking to
me, and checking his book he was blown away by how far down
the Poseidon prices have come.

Oh... ran the question by my local dive club, and I ended up going
with the Apeks... primary decision factor: servicability.
