Nobody in their right ming goes out of their way to O2 clean a reg for what we charge. I'll give you a good price on some Simple Green though. We must (mostly) follow the manufacturers instructions, but you don't. Aqualung seems very afraid of nitrox, but...I don't need Aqualung for anything.

I believe that traditionally Apeks regulators were always certified for use with nitrox mixes up to 40%. However Aqualung (formerly US Divers) always specified that their regulators were not suited to nitrox use and a special nitrox regulator must be purchased. Apeks now has a relationship with Aqualung or their parent company and after the relationship went into effect Apeks changed the recommendations on the use of their regulators (at least in the USA) to match, i.e. no nitrox use.

sounds like a good regulator gone bad.

but the reason for the statement is so it's inline with the basic nitrox courses.

As Nitrox diving as presented in the TDI course is fairly straightforward as long as the diver understands the princilples and risks involved.

Getting above 40% is another animal in deed and as we know, requires additional training, knowledge, understanding, and practice. So a way to keep an untrained and unknowing diver from trying it is to say that their reg is not meant for mixtures richer than 40%

Basically, it could be construed that APEKS is really just covering their hiney.

When Apeks went over to EPDM O-ring last year I was told by the factory that the new regs had, in addition to the new O-rings, O2-compatible grease, and were usable out of the box with 100%.

Let me be the first to welcome you to the Board. It is truly an honor to have you as a member. We look forward to your advice and comments as well as any questions that you might have.

ID,

The Navy's SOP is inconsequential to the civilian dive industry. There is no need to oxygen clean a reg that will see only sub-40% nitrox. The CGA agrees.

just something you have heard, I can document mine.

And the line about "The Navy's SOP being inconsequential to the civilian dive industry," is the biggest line of BS I have ever heard, half of the stuff we do now, we can thank the Navy for.

Just received a DS4/TX40 I ordered from DiveInn (great price and even better customer service). The reg arrived in the original Apeks box with the manual that says:

“NITROX USE”

Apeks regulators Models TX50, TX40 and T20 with diaphragm type adjustable pressure first stages, Type D Part No. AP0230, Type U Part No, AP0231 are suitable for use with oxygen enriched gases (i.e. Nitrox etc.) providing oxygen content does not exceed 40%.”

Hope this helps,
Mike

Are we concluding that the European manuals say nitrox is ok and the USA manuals say no nitrox?
