I am running into a dilemma and am looking for some advice.

My girlfriend says it is mine, but I dont think it is.....

Anyway,

Today I dropped another 2lbs off my weight belt....so now I am diving 10lbs total with a SS BP (6lbs) and 4 lbs on my weight belt. This is in fresh water in a full 7mm, booties...

My problem is I am going Caribbean diving in about 25 days, diving in a full 3mm...why this is not a problem in itself....based on my past weight ratios going from fresh/7mm to salt/3mm....I probably won't need anything, but my SS BP for weight.

Should I get a AP and put the rest on a weight belt or should I just say forget the weight belt and go with the SS?

Obviously the issue is ditchable weight....even if I do go with the weight belt...there is just not going to be that much to ditch anyway...

Suggestions?

Thanks,

Jason

Airline checked baggage weight limits have gotten more strict; some airlines apply overweight penalties for bags that weigh as little as 51lbs.

So the question here is how much are your checked bags going to weigh out at, and how much weight from checked baggage would the AP save?

You might want to consider doing a full-blown test-pack of your suitcases with all your gear and see how close you are to exceeding the new airline checked baggage weight limits.

FYI, on Continental (Domestic), the checked baggage overweight penalties start at 50lbs. Its +$25/bag if between 50-70lbs, then +$50/bag for 70-100lbs. An AP can pay for itself if it gets you under one of these limits.

Using an Al tank I would stick with the stainless plate. If you do need a couple extra pounds put it on a belt. With that rig I wouldn't worry about the lack of ditchable weight (if you end up with just the plate) because you should have no trouble getting it to the surface.

Thanks Mike! Makes sense.

HH, my first dive trip I packed way too much. Weighting was not a problem, I just had too many bags.

My full Akona travel bag doesnt even come close to 50 lbs with all my gear in it. My other checked luggage is clothes, which for diving vacations is just toiletries, shorts, t-shirts and one pair of underwear per 10 days (j/k) two pairs actually...heheh
