Does not anyone in the Bali diving universe have a pump or some gaffer

Does anyone still use insulin syringes, aren’t most folks on pens? The issue with any syringe will be to connect to the housing and then how to recycle the syringe.
Bill

You might have better luck with syringes at a farm supply or vetenary supply where they have a variety of large syringes for dosing animals directly or using larger than human sized needles. More capacity as well. I wonder if an adapter could be made to use the simple, proven, Nauticam pump?

if the nauticam pump could be made to work I'd buy one.

It's bulky but a mechanics vacuum pump (Mityvac preferably) works and is very robust.
If you try with a syringe get the longest one with smallest diameter, it's very hard to pull vacuum with a large diameter piston.

These vacuum capable housings are not pulling a full vacuum of 30 inches Hg. It is only a partial vacuum, a few inches Hg Delta at most from sea level or wherever pumped down. At least for Nauticam, the circuit is temperature compensated to reduce possible false alarms due to cooling of the housing upon entering the water. I am sure others do similar or perhaps rely upon a slightly greater Delta.

Thanks all of you. I got through the dive trip by sucking the life out of the AOI housing (thanks again Bill). This was my second trip with the AOI, but first with the MF2 and a diopter. Delighted with the results as I managed to photograph a Hairy Sprimp which I have been pointed to many times, but never been able to see before, (the joys of old age).
BTW, Underwater.com.au replaced the pump, so hopefully this one will last.

I think I spent EU20 on a spare AOI pump (the one with the folding handle). One less thing to worry about, and cheap by the standards of UW photography. Maybe worth considering before your next trip.
