If you are diving in Grand Cayman use Cayman Dive Lodge on the East End for boat dives. They will be able to assist you on the best shore dives........Caymaniac Jack

jimmyboy:
just interested to hear any comments about the Seaview hotel in Grand Cayman, also how was the shore diving ? Thanks

i am going to assume that these are two separte questions:

1. Seaview hotel: no clue sorry

2. shore diving: nothing to write home about. Cayman is not
exactly the place to shore dive, though there are good enough
spots, to be sure. Eden Rock and environs near Georgetown,
Cemetery Reef to the north, the Turtle Farm up further north,
are all pretty good. there are others; ask the locals.

the best diving in the Caymans are the walls, and you will
likely have to take a boat out. don't miss them! they are
world-class

In my opinion the Seaview can be described as basic accommodations at best. The property is advertised as Grand Cayman’s oldest hotel and it shows. They had done a major remodel just before we were there in February 2002 after a hurricane. The public spaces did look pretty good but it looked like all the rooms got were a fresh coat of paint and maybe a new bedspread. Our shower stall was one of those plastic things and you could feel the floor flex as you took a shower and it was broken around the drain. The room had been sprayed with some kind of air freshener that was so strong it made your eyes burn. I have other gripes but it’d just be more whining than I’ve already done – obviously we didn’t like the place but I’ve read posts by several people that love it, I guess it depends on what you’re looking for. If it’s just a place to sleep it may be right for you. But if you’re looking for something that offers a little comfort – I’d keep looking.

I divided my trip to the Caymans between Grand Cayman and Little Cayman. If I had it to do over, I'd spend one day in Grand Cayman, to experience Sting Ray City, and then the rest of the time in Little Cayman. Bloody Bay Wall is fabulous!

hey, nice article.... in the first picture, that looks like a British frigate in the background... was there a Royal Navy visit going on or something?

Yup. We had a visit from HMS Monmouth.
