Great, thanks for the welcome direct from Blackbeards! I am really looking forward to it. And New Years in Bimini sounds right up my alley :)

I ask Rose if she was going to really let me go by myself on a liveaboard for a week and she said no. Now I get to take my best friend for the last 31 years with me. We are targeting the Peter Hughes Sun Dancer II out of Belize City from 12/27/08 to 1/03/09. Anyone had an experience on the Sun Dancer II or a Peter Hughes dive boat? Also can anyone give some comments on the diving around Belize.

I work to dive and am trying to reverse this problem.

I've been out on Blackbeard's twice and loved both trips. But I loved the trip at Thanksgiving much better. That was Thanksgiving of 2002 and the vis was fantastic. I went back in May of 2007 and the vis was not what I expected. It seemed that all the coral had a haze over it (spawning?). I went in May of 2007 single and found a buddy immediately, she happened to be my roommate.

They do a shark dive and you can feel the anxiety before that dive. Just add a few pounds to your weight so you can stay on the bottom and it's fantastic. The sharks don't come until they hear the panga (with the bait ball) hit the water. That won't happen until everybody is in place and comfortable.

As an additional note, I've been diving single for 5 years (diving a lot longer than that) Yes, it's a little disconcerting when the operator calls and says HI - we have 4 couples, 7 men and YOU. He did offer to give me all my money back but I wouldn't give up the Galapagos islands. As it turned out, I eventually did get a female roomate, not one of the original 16 passengers.

If you want to PM me, I'll give more info.

Hey Jen, Im from Freeport, and i know the operator personally. They will take great care of you, the owners , staff, overall great people. Oh yea if you have any time to hangout in the mainland, head over to Port Lucaya Market Place, great food and entertainment there.

Sorry to say I won't be there but it will be on my list to check that out when I start looking for some really unique adventures!!! You'll have a great time...think positive!!!

Hi Jen -
I have done several Blackbeard's cruises - at least 5 and most of alone. You will have a great time!!! The diving is wonderful and the camaraderie puts it over the top. Relax - damn I'm jealous!

Jen,
I took my 3 boys on a Blackbeard Cruise two spring breaks ago. I'd done several liveaboards before- by comparison the Blackbeard boat was sort of like roughing it, but we had a great time and the diving was good. Luckily the weather was perfect- if it had been rough or very hot I don't think I would have enjoyed it as much. We were at sea for 6 days, only got on land 2x.

I was on a Blackbeards Trip in July. I went alone and had a great time. I got there a day early and stayed in a bed and breakfast where I met a great family and my dive buddy for the week. If you don't have that opportunity, it doesn't matter. The quarters are close enough that you are almost forced to meet everyone. The crew also does a great job of having fun and getting everyone involved. By the end of the week, you will have shared some great times with some great people. Have a blast, an do not skip the shark dive. This was the most amazing trip of my life. (take some sea sickness medicine for that first night just in case. someone will need it. also, pack light. your bed is also your dresser and storage area.) Camping on a boat!!!
