I'm flying into Bali on August 11th and then have booked a flight into Labuanbajo, thought I'd stay at least 4 or 5 days and do some diving based from shore operations going towards Komodo and Rinca. Now the operators on the islands tell me that it's so full people are sleeping on floors of the locals house, until they find space. Would be great to hear from anyone as to how crowded it is at the moment, and what ideas they may have about diving and staying in that area.

I was in Labuan Bajo in 2005. It is a VERY bustling port town. I was staying on a liveaboard, so I cannot attest to the accommodation situation. But there were plenty of dive shops and the people were soo friendly. Make sure you get a driver to take you up to the village in the hills with the overlook. It is the most breathtaking view you can imagine. We went late so we could see the sunset. Take a little money for a donation to the village elder and if you can, some candy or trinkets for the children.

This was the view...

Side note, this is a muslim town, we would sit up on the deck of the boat and listen to the evening prayers. I loved it, it was very calming.

I'm arriving in Labuanbajo on September 2. I've basically left my accommodation options open because I wanted to shop around, plus I've been told most of the guesthouses don't take bookings anyway.
I'm diving with Reefseekers and they've booked me our first night at Golo Hilltop "just in case."
These reports of tourist over-crowded have made me a little concerned though... not sure what to do now!

Yes, I found a place late last night by email, at the Golo hill top, although I'm still awaiting confirmation. I can't imagine it's too organized there.
Scuba Jenn, great shot!!!! that's nice. What liveaboard were you on if I may ask?

Not personally, I have several dive operations checking for me, as it's hard to actually contact each little place!

Hi there!
I'm going to Labuan Bajo on August 11 as well. Liveaboard on MV Charlie for a week (http://marlindive.com/charly.htm). Anybody use this boat before?
I'm a bit nervous cos I kinda new diver, just got my AOW Cert. And from the news, the seas in Indonesia is not too friendly right now. Big waves here and there.
