Slightly off topic - but what I find VERY ironic is that the cruise ships have canceled Mexican ports until further notice due to the risk of passengers contracting the flu and bringing it back on board. HELLLOOOOOO - the cruise ships are probably the WORST place to be right now...I wonder how many cases of the flu they are hiding for all those conspiracy theorists out there! All it will take in a cruise ship environment is ONE person to infect a whole slew of them...remember the big issues they had with virus control not too long ago? Was that SARS or something else? They (cruise ships) sure didn't mind dropping people off here who were infected then!

I was there last week when the cruise ships stopped coming in and you know what.. the place got friendlier and seemed to be safer.
The only bad behavior I saw while I was in Cozumel was early in the week when some a**es from the cruise ships were giving Americans (yes they were Americans) a bad name by their drunken, moronic and aggressive behavior .. in the middle of the day even.
We walked around the downtown on Tuesday when there were no cruise ships and even though there were only a few of us tourists, the level of "sales approaches" did not seem very bad at all. In fact we felt that they were a little bit more laid back about it.
BTW. in general, based on discussions on this board, I was prepared for a lot worse than it actually is in Coz. Nobody even wanted to sell me a timeshare :-) Well at least nobody got far enough to explain what they were selling.

We already have a Flu thread don't we...?

The cruise companies did what they had to do as they didn't know what would happen in port this week and having an outbreak on a confined boat and access to help impaired has got to be the worst possible.

Ummm...isn't that basically what I said...with some added thoughts?

I suppose, other than you dismissed the logic of increasing boat safety by canceling Mexico - which was logical not knowing where this would go.

And it was reassuring to the passengers, too.

I just think it's funny that anyone would think the cruise ships keep us "safe." If anything, the streets are far more dangerous when the pod people are here rolling out of Carlos & Charlie's with their empty yards of "margaritas" and their balloon animal hats, walking out in the middle of the street as if this is Disneyland...now THAT scares me! :rofl3:

Hey, I resemble that remark! :D

Well except for the pod people part(You'll never get me in one of those tin cans), and though I may have won a Yarder in the drinking contest last trip, no ballon animals were harmed or molested in any way. :shocked2:

P.S. I'd like to once again extend a big thank you to the officer that pulled us over on the drive back to the hotel for not making me a guest in one of their finest secured rooms. ;)

Thanks for all the replies. I believe when I used the word "looting" is what might have brought out the emotions. Yes it was a bad choice of words. I would be shocked to hear of looting in Coz. In louisiana I would it would be normal. Will be in Coz end of may. This will be our third trip to Coz in 7 months. Could not say any thing bad about Coz. One more time, my apologies to those that I may have offended.

....Look at where s/he's from...memories of Katrina are probably fresh.

:clapping: That was my EXACT thought. At first it did seem an odd question, but the minute I saw where they were from I was like...Ohhh! I get it. In the New Orleans area things did turn around overnight....people see things through a filter of their own experiences....which also explains some folks reactions....they reacted based on the folks who evidently have nothing better to do than occassionally put up strange warnings about Coz. Everyone's emotions are still running really high from the thread about the "F" word  No......not that "F" word......the one that rhymes with "Clue" :D
