Curious about vis and water temp. Thinking about a quick trip to get wet before a trip to Hawaii. Wondering if I need to dive dry or if I can get away with a 5 ml since I don't own a 7ml. Thanks

We were there on Friday, and brought friends visiting from the Middle East. We dove dry and were really warm (too hot between dives). Our friends used to the Red Sea water were comfortable in rented 7mm wet suits - their first cold water diving. Conditions were awesome, except this giant black sea bass wouldn't leave us alone on our second dive. After watching him, we would start off to dive some more, and he followed us, got in front and blocked us, forcing us to spend more time watching him! We probably spent 40 minutes of the dive watching this big fish. Otherwise, the diving was great. Water temperature was near 70 on the surface, dropping to 63ish at the thermocline; and viz was 40+ feet. Not sure how the viz will be after classes and lots of divers this past weekend

Viz should be good if you get there before the students get there.

Consider that the water is close to 70-F, I think that a 5-mil wetsuit should be OK.

Recent experience at Casino Point? 60 dives there this month and counting. Conditions are pretty darned good. Vis up to 50 ft or more. Could see giant sea bass and bat rays from "miles" away. Some strong currents yesterday which may have helped clear the resuspended sediment from the OW classes. Planning on at least 10 dives this week to take advantage of conditions for filming. Temps have cooled off at least below the thermocline. One diver had 59 F below ity but still in the upper 60s/low 70s near the surface (cooler than a week ago).
