Hi all! I'm a recent OW cert diver and work a two week night schedule that gives me every other weekend off. Well, sometimes I don't think I want to wait two weeks to go dive and was wondering who dives during the week around here and where. I live in Jacksonville, but don't mind driving a couple of hours to go dive. My big thing is that I haven't dove since my check-out dives three weeks ago and I need some PRACTICE!! Any brave souls out there wanna help a new guy learn a cool sport? Wednesday and Thursday (8/13-14) are the first days I have available (gonna miss the Venice Beach party :( ). Thanks!

We are talking about diving the Peace River. Check out that TREAD. I dont know if thats to far of a drive for you.

Well if you are ever willing to drive down to Miami or Broward I'd dive with ya.

I second amelo's comment. I have weekdays off and wish I had someone to dive with. If you're ever down this way let me know.

Thanks for the invites guys! Both Peace River and Miami are like 5 hour drives from Jax...but not necessarily out of the question :). What type of diving do you guys do during the week in Miami? Are there charter/private boats, or do you shore dive?

There is all sorts of diving down here in South Florida. You can beach dive on both the first and second reef lines, although it's not much of a reef in that close. A charter dive boat can drop you on the third reef line or one of the maybe 20 nice wreck dives in 25 to 130 feet of water. Most people dive off one of the many charter dive boats, there seems to be one on nearly every corner, but others have their own boat. God willing and the creek don't rise my boat will be back in the water soon.

If you get the chance to come down let some of us know and maybe we can show you around.

Scott

Well I happen to think the first and second reef near commercial blvd are pretty good given that it is a beach dive

Given that they're beach dives yes the first and second reefs in that area are not bad, in some places, but compared to the third reef most everywhere else they're not much to look at.

Some friends of mine and I used to shore dive the second reef off Oakland Park Blvd every Wednesday night, I though it was ok but nothing compaired to the third reef. I recently dived the first reef off Hibiscus and I thought it absolutly sucked, nothing but a few rock piles to look at. Some spots are ok, others not.

Oh I agree there but some spots can be nice alternatives to the schedules of boat dives. Personally I still prefer boat dives but I do like that specific spot.

I'm willing to dive halfway. Perhaps Palm Beach or central Florida. Have wanted to dive central florida springs sometime. There's always plenty to dive down in Fort Lauderdale area. I prefer diving by boat rather than beach. It's not just the hastle of caring equipment in and out but in deeper water you're more likely to see things like wrecks, more reefs and bigger fish. Although beach dives can be done anytime and at lower cost.

Let us know if you're planning on coming south and we'll plan a group dive.
