There was a report from the Palos Verdes, California Chief of Police that a diver had fallen on his dive knife at Christmas Tree Cove and accidently fatally stabbed himself this past weekend. Some people reported seeing a blurb on the news Monday morning, but there was nothing in the papers about it.

I was deer hunting last fall and our local butcher stabbed himself to the bone gutting his deer. We enjoy explaining to him that hunters usually try to gut the deer, not themselves. Hope your diver survived to become the butt of jokes, it sure beats the alternative.

Was that the story told to the police by the diver's ex-wife? Did he somehow manage to fall on the knife several times too?

Did he accidentally brutally stab himself in the stomach sixteen times before rolling himself up in an old carpet and throwing himself in the river?

And the Chief of Police was quoted saying, "It's the worst case of suicide I've ever seen."

Worst place to try to commit suicide is among a group of divers - there's normally a fight to determine who gets to attend the victim. They all want to get to use their first-aid training.

It's a real pain when you get all trained up and the victims don't appear.
Like one scenario we had on one course where the instructor said, "let's imagine the sea is rough and the victim has just slipped and fallen on a Danforth anchor and spilled his guts all over the deck. What is the correct sequence of actions?"
Now I've never had to stuff someones guts back in after duly inspecting them. It's really frustrating.

another arguement against a leg mounted pig-sticker...

you might fall on it and die.
