Looking at a Tilos 7mm semi-dry with attached hood. Only do a few cold water dives per year. Thanks for the help.

In general what a person needs to be comfortable depends on That Person and on just how cold the water is. For, example I've done two dives a day for a week with a similiar rig in 43F water and was comfortable. This last Saturday I was diving in 34F water in a dry suit. It was comfortable. The wet suit wouldn't have been. At the same time some folks wouldn't dive that temp water in anything.

So, take a look at water temp., opportunity to warm up between dives, your cold tolerance and the suit's price.

Define cold (expected water temps). When I talk to people from the Southern US (FL, SC, TX) they talk about "cold" water and getting out their drysuit and then they say "yeah, it's dropped to the low 60's). I don't want to sound like they're off or anything, relative to waht they're used to, that might be cold. Up here where it hardly gets above the mid 50's in a lot of sites and low to mid 40's below the thermocline, that's downright balmy. Me at 60F, I'd still wear my 7mm semi dry, but I know one guy who'd dive that in a 3mm. I wear the 7mm semi, with thick gloves and hood down to about 56F, then I add the hooded jacket and I'm good to the low 40's (I have dove it at 34F, but only one dive a day and warm air temps). As it gets into the 60's I switch to thinner gloves, thinner hood or beanie and in the low 70's switch to a 3/2 steamer.

A 1-piece w/attached hood should work pretty well for you. Next questions are how's the fit & how much does it cost?
For only a few cold water dives a year, you might want to consider something that'd give yourself a little more flexability with regards to water temps, like maybe a semi-dry 1-piece & a hooded vest.

I agree with Bob. The full suit hooded isn't as flexible as a full piece and a hooded vest. You are confined only to one choice. As the water gets warmer you can ditch the hooded vest and maybe put just a hood on. Also the suit may fit the body tight but the hood part may be too loose or too tight. Some heads like mine are out of proportion the the body relative to wetsuit sizes. I take a small suit and a medium hood.
