I got invited last night for a potential Gulf boat dive on Sunday AM. Don't have any details yet, but I'm wondering how Gustav may affect to the vis/wave conditions. I'm relatively inexpereinced in predicting Gulf conditions based on the weather, any experts out there care to prognosticate?

Thanks,

John

I'm not even going to try a guess.

Last time I did it was for 3 to 4's, sunshine, 85 degree water and look what happened to the Titanic.

Ty sounds like a good bet.

By looking at the storm track it doesn't look good. They show it dead in the middle of the gulf headed toward La.

Well, I'm no expert, but Gustaf is forecast to be a Cat III storm and we'll (Tampa/St Pete) will be on the Northeast side of it. I would err on the side of caution, there's always another day to dive. :palmtree: Bob

Thanks all!

I'm probably going to be ready to go, but have a back-up plan in case it falls through.

Does the back-up plan include plywood and tap cons?

Visit the NHC site. Gustav is predicted to be in the center of the Gulf at 2 PM, which puts it a bit south of the center at Sunday AM. Since Tampa is at the edge of the 5-day cone, I would say the chop will be significant.

I had looked at the track and that's kind of what I was thinking, along with what it might do to the vis.
