With so many wrecks, is it worthwhile to learn how to dive in confined enviroment in the great lakes?? Or is it better to find some nice caves in warm weather??

Great Lakes diving is the best diving in the world, hands down!!! I know I'll get a lot of flack for that one, but only because it's true. :D

Yes, find a good instructor who can teach you to dive in the museum. You'll dive more often locally.

Diving the Great Lakes wreck is definately worth it especially if you like wrecks. LOL

As for training, lots of us are cave trained but wrecks are different than caves in a lot of ways. I don't have any detailed knowledge of any specific wreck diving courses but I have to think that if you find a wreck course being offered by a GOOD EXPERIENCED wreck diver, that it would be worth doing. Maybe it's a good idea to have the cave training too but I can't argue the point.

I can't think of anyone on the Michigan side off the top of my head who I know for certain is teaching a wreck class but I know an instructor on the Wisconsin side that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

Where are you in Michigan? One of my buddies is a great wreck diver and great instructor, but his teaching schedule has been scaled way back as a result of some family issues. If he can't do it, I am sure he can recommend someone. He knows a lot of people in the area. We are in the Metro Detroit area, but may be able to give you a referral elsewhere. If you want to PM me some information, I can try to put you in touch, or if you would prefer, I can just ask him to check this thread. Are you certified for trimix?
