Hello, I'm new to the board and was just wondering if there was anybody from Southeastern, MA out there and if so where do you dive. I live down towards the Cape, just not quite over the bridge. Thanks

Hi
I'm from North Attleboro. We did most of our diving in Rockport last year with an occassional visit to Sandwich. WE plan to do some diving in Plymouth this weekend looking for lobster.

WELCOME!! Im from the lower eastern portion of mass, by Sturbridge. I usually drive to Stage Fort, Pebble Beach ect or go to Ft Wetherill RI.

When I just wanna get wet or time is a consideration, I hit one of the local lakes.

When I used to go to UMass Amherst I thought Palmer was in Western MA.

Hanover! Close enough to know there's no highway 74 'round here. South Shore diving is just ok, I agree with johlar, Rockport/ Gloucester are great for New England, I've also done King's Beach in Newport. Years ago, I did Blackrock Beach in Cohasset, and more recently have done boat dives (charter) to Tar Pouch and Minot Light (Scituate). Marshfield (Brant Rock) is a long swim for so-so sights.
Where are you diving?

Nope, didnt move.........just me not paying attention to what i'm writing, letting the mind wander. I had to reread my post to see what you meant.

I have very little patience for stupid people and/or those that refuse to rise above their current standard of living and choose to blame others for their plight and I was forced to deal with no less than 3 of them today and have 1 more to address tommorow.

I use this board to relax and keep up on something that I really enjoy.

Some nights I just need to stay off and get a good nights sleep. Or at the very least, dont post anything...Sorry for the misleading info.

When looking at a regular map one would say there must be plenty of dive sites on the south shore. I understand there isn't. It it that there is just no place to park and access the shore or is diving really poor on the south shore. We have only 1 decent place to dive in CT and its mainly due to poor vis and most of the shore is private.

I've done a bit of diving in the Marshfield area. If you have a boat, there are a lot of good diving sites near there, but, as someone said, if you are going from shore it makes for a long swim, but is still do-able. I've had some good lobstering in that area, too. It is quite different topography compared to the North Shore, though (although it is warmer usually!)

I strongly disagree.

While there isn't the abundance of shore diving you'll find on Cape Ann, there are a ton of great dive sites on the South Shore. You may need a boat to get to them, but that isn't hard to do... I can put you in touch with a Weymouth-based charter boat if you need one. Off the top of my head, and only going from Hull to Scituate, I can think of:

Kiowa wreck, Strawberry Ledge, the canyons, Gunrock, Black Rock beach, Sandy Cove, Minot's ledge, Minot rocks (the site of over 100 shipwrecks since the 1600s), Delaware wreck, Tar Pouch, Hardings Ledge, Grampuses, Pinthis wreck, Mars wreck, the now excluded Peggoty Beach, etc. There are a ton I forgot, including a bunch of good sites in and around the outer harbor islands.

The beach diving on Cape Ann is good, but I wouldn't go so far as to say I prefer it.

The diving's great... getting to a good site without a boat or parking permit is hard. The south shore, IMHO, would be the ideal place for a kayak diver.
