Any dive companies that pick up from Playa del Carmen to dive Cozumel OR from the ferry in Coz?

I saw a few dive companies that look like they will transport from Playa del Carmen to Cozumel, but it looks like it's all day for only 2 dives. My thought is it's likely better for us to take the ferry over ourselves and get in 4 dives. Any suggestions on dive shops that may depart from PC to Coz that offer more than 2 dives OR any dive shops that pick up from the ferry in Coz?
TIA

Just take the first ferry over and then a taxi to where your selected Coz operator picks up or departs from.

I'd bet you'll find that the "transport from PDC" offered by those shops is also the ferry. In other words, they promote the "we'll get you over here, take you diving, and get you back to PDC", but the over and back is via ferry. It doesn't really make sense to do it another way. If they are actually taking you on a dive boat from PDC over to Coz... holy smokes, that's a long crossing. Probably expensive too.

So yes, completely agree with you (and Reefhound, above): "better for us to take the ferry over ourselves and get in 4 dives" You can make your own schedule, and the dive op doesn't have to try to arrange all of that for you (which would create added layers of complexity.)

There are at least two dive boats that make the daily crossing, and most shops in Playa just book the seats in one of them. It is way more convenient than the ferry, definitely gets you back earlier.

Some do book you with another shop in Cozumel and send you via ferry, or may do so if you have limited days and the speedboats had no available room. It is a way longer, more uncomfortable day.

To the OP, make sure the schedule works for 4 dives, it will be tricky. I would sleep in Coz if 2 dives is not enough, ferry both ways and 4 dives sounds like a lot!

Either way, I’m sure you’ll have a blast. Happy diving!

I would email Nicolas from CenoteXperience. They have a shop in Playa and dive over on Cozumel.

Phocea sends you from their shop in PDC to their shop in Coz - via ferry and taxi. Then you walk across the street in Coz to their boat. I’ve done it a few times.

Pro: all 1 price and you get escorted the whole way.

A more independent traveller could just arrange the ferry tickets and taxis and timing themselves and save a few bucks

Good to know... thanks for the information. Most of us just offer advice based on our limited experience, so it's always nice when someone local can tell us exactly what's available.

Just curious... how long for the PDC dive boats to get to the Coz dive sites? 60 to 90 minutes?

It depends on the weather and the size of the boat. This time of year there is a near constant stiff SE breeze, so the crossing in a small boat will be a bit rough. A larger boat will be more comfortable but will take longer.

Depends on conditions and what specific dive site you are headed to. Xaman-ha is the faster boat, and can do under 50 minutes to Santa Rosa wall if I remember correctly. Over 60 if conditions are “sporty” - and the ride can be very bumpy.

The other boat is slower and bigger. It’s more stable though, so the ride is a bit comfier. Both are definitely wet 😅

On a good day, you get two 60 minute dives and you are back in Playa by 3 pm.

Whichever shop you book through, better to ask a few days in advance, especially in high season. Someone mentioned Cenotexperience above - great guys.
