I'm a Fish!
Hey everyone!

Yesterday I had the opportunity to shoot video of the "Antipodes" (pronounced Ahn-tih-po-deez) mini-sub as it was being run through it's paces off the Atlantic Beach Pier (specifically Touchdown Reef for you locals). This mini-sub was previously used as a tourist attraction in New Zealand and the new owner will be shipping it back to Australia for life as a research sub. If you want to read more about it, go to Subdive.com

I shot a few above-ground photos which I am attaching, and am working on the video I shot over the next couple of days. Meanwhile enjoy the photos!

PS: Did I mention that after the shoot was over I also got to ride in the sub? WAY FREAKIN' COOL!!! :D

Cool stuff dude! You get all the great gigs

She looks like an older Perry submersible. Any idea what sort of research tasks are intended for her? Those Perry's were a bit underpowered and have little or no provision for modern manipulators and other sampling gear, though they make great tourist subs because of the big forward dome.

Actually they towed the sub from just south of Atlantic Blvd to the Hillsboro Inlet and back down to the beach off of Atlantic Blvd. Slowest ride up the IC i have ever taken in my life. Took almost an hour just to get to the inlet!

It was a tourist attraction in New Zealand regularly taking tourists down to 920ft to check out the fiords underwater. I have no idea what research use she is intended for now, but she now has a dome on both the rear and front.
