Both my wife and I passed our PADI Open water Diver course yesterday (Sunday, January 22nd, 2006).

Did the open water dives at Capernwray with 10 layers of clothing and a drysuit in water temperature of 5C!! Absolutely freezing, although everything went very well. Struggled a bit taking off the BCD and weight belt so had to take off the gloves and my hands froze instantly. The full mask removal was amazing, trying to tuck the mask back into the hood was a struggle.

We both wanted to be qualified before we go on holiday at the end of February. Aiming to do around ten dives on holiday then head into the AOW course.

I consider myself extremely lucky because I selected a brilliant school. Literally the entire team of instructors and dive masters etc came down and my wife and I went throught the OW dives with our own set of DM and Instructor. Ready to join the club soon so I can head down to the pool and practise the skills every week until the weather gets a little warmer :).

Kind of a weird feeling but on dive four after we had completed all the skills and head out for a swim on our way back despite being very cold I felt a little sad to be leaving the place. I thought I would not be able to get out of there fast enough but we hugged and celebrated with the DM and instructor in the water before getting out.

We both feel very confident in our knowledge now and feel safe and secure for our next dives on our own.

Hi, it's great to hear your news! Congratulations!
It's always nice to share these first experiences, as you find that everybody else experienced more or less the same.
Cheers,
Karina

Welcome to the board, and welcome to Diving! Where will you be going on Holiday?

Congratulations! It's always nice to hear from newly certified divers. Their enthusiasm is contagious!

Count your blessings that you had the option to certify in a dry suit. 4C is awfully cold! I certified in a dry suit, too, and have never actually worn a wetsuit. I'm looking forward to it when I go to Thailand later this year, though.

I hope that your vacation takes you somewhere warm and sunny, and you can dive in just a thin little wetsuit and hardly any weight. :) Welcome to diving!

Congratulations on the certifications on having each other as buddies. I too am delighted to have my wife as my frequent buddy. Diving is a great way to spend time together and it's super team building.

Dive safe and often!
Pete

Congrats to the both of you. Also welcome to ScubaBaord. I hope you have a great vacation and by the sounds of it you both will have agreat time. Take it easy and keep practicing those skills you learned.

Welcome aboard!

I hope you plan a trip to tropical waters somewhere for a completely different experience!

A few years ago my wife and I had a very pleasant dive week in Cayman Brac, spending a lot of time with a couple from Leeds. They had done all of their previous diving in the UK, especially in a quarry somewhere near Leeds. They could not get over the difference of the experience. They were raving about the visibility, and they were shocked when I told them that the tropical storm that had passsed through a few days before had stirred things up, and the visibility was actually poor at the time.

Wherever you go, have a great time!

Congratulations and welcome! It sounds like you had a great certification experience which is really great to hear. Happy diving!

Jason
