Hi all. New to the sport. This looks like a good place to get some tips and meet some great people. In fact, so new, that we're trying to figure out where/when we can do the open water dives for the final certification. And of course, I have champagne tastes and a beer budget for all the new equipment I want.

Welcome to the board!

Welcome to Scubaboard! This is a great place to get tips, ask questions and meet diving buddies. If you decide to travel up to NC, we have an active club here in case you need a diving buddy. Check out our forum here, as well as our website www.wreckmaniac.com.

I'm the same as you. Just remember one thing. LAYAWAY....

Welcome aboard, you shouldn't have any problems getting advice. My to you is "buy it one, buy it right" Remember you can buy things for less on line, but there is a lot to be said to hooking up with a good shop and picking up you stuff from them. even if you pay a couple bucks more, you are paying for their expertise.

I am NOT a shop owner, but I have learned the importance of associating with a good shop.

Good luck

Normally the shop teaching the OW course will have set something up. Or is it that you are doing a referal. I've never thought that was a good idea. because

1) Better to dive with theinstructor you know and who knows you
2) Do it locally so you learn about local diving. "local" is the place
you will be doing most of your diving
3) Don't waste vacation time in an OW class. Much better to go there
as a more experianced diver

Yes, the local shop will set something up. It's just a matter of where we want to do it. Local waters here range from murky to clear from day to day. We were thinking of someplace in FL called Crystal Lake or Crystal Spring. Supposed to be a nice, clear spring. And I wouldn't think of trying this with someone other than my instuctor.
