Just an FYI, I heard today that Haven's Reef in Eagle Rock is OOB. Closed last Saturday for good.

I'm sure business is tough right now for many shops. It's just sad when a good dive shop goes under.

Bummer about Haven's Reef. Sharky's is like 1/2 hour away from Eagle Rock, though, but don't know what's closer. ? Sport Chalet maybe?

Sharkys is probably a bit farther than 1/2 hour. To the east there is Dolphin Dive center in Arcadia (Santa Anita and Duarte Road, below the 210 fwy).

Business has been bad for the last few years. Reef Seekers, Laguna Sea Sports, Scuba Toys, and Newport Aquatics all lost their lease or were bought out in the last 2-3 years, although Reef Seekers still does boat trips. I believe American Diver in Lomita also closed. Now Haven's Reef is gone, All Things Scuba is reportedly closing and Sports Chalet has closed the dive operations at some of its stores. Liburdis just announced they are moving and having a clearance sale, but they have not said where they are going. That is usually not a good sign.

I'm not sure if Liburdi's owns that spot or not, but that is high priced real estate. Too bad as their in house pool with artificial reef for phot classes seemed awsome. I always meant to take a class there. Guess I better hurry!

I am pretty sure Liburdis is just a tenant in that center. It is possible the landlord wants to use the space for something else and did not give them much notice. My understanding is that's what happened to Reef Seekers.
