Hi to all!

My wife and I just returned to SoCal from Thailand with our BOW certs. We're anxious to start diving in the LA area and may even go with some friends (long-time divers) in the next week or two.

I'm sure we were spoiled by the tropical diving conditions, but we'll just have to adapt to the colder water here. Oh, we also learned to read dive tables and gauges using the metric system. How many psi in a bar again? ;)

I'm looking forward to learning a boatload here.

See you all online.

Welcome to the board!

Thanks for the warm welcome.

My wife, my friend, Bobby, and I tried our first shore dive at Malaga Cove this morning. On the way out past the kelp beds, an errant strand pulled one of my wife's fins off. We searched for about 15-20 minutes for the thing, but in 5' viz, it was hopeless. We got back on shore and packed up the gear. Sheesh, we each had 2 full tanks and were hoping to get some decent diving in once we could get past the kelp in deeper water. The red tide was pretty bad and near shore, the water looked more like pea soup.

My wife was really bummed about her fin (she bought the pair yesterday) and told Bobby and I that we should dive without her. In the interest of fairness, I told her that we'll get another pair of fins and try for next weekend. She suggested going down to the beach for a bit and we agreed that we could catch some sun and avoid having the trip be a total loss.

On the way back down the path from the parking lot, she says, "I wonder if we should look for the fin, it might have washed up." Bobby and I shared a cynical laugh, but agreed that it couldn't hurt. Well, whaddya know. There it was about 2' above the waterline and about 30' down the shore from where we were looking. Score! We sat on the beach for a while, laughing about the whole thing. Better luck next time, I guess.

Man are you guys lucky!! Might want to go and get some lottery tickets too.

I love the kelp diving in California, can't wait to get back there. Got a trip scheduled for mid July. Yoohoo!

Safe diving!
