Hey Everyone,

Im pretty new the world of Scuba, I did my OW last year and doing my AOW this year. Im looking to start getting my gear together and would like some advice. The two BCD's iv been looking at were the Zeagle Ranger and the Scubapro Knightwawk. I live in Canada so a good chunk of my dives will be cold water with the odd time I plan on going down south for some R&R, I will be be using a Wetsuit for now because I don't have the money for a dry suit. I will be diving singles for now but maybe in the future I might go doubles, but for now I plan to stick to singles. Im not a huge fan of weight belts but if I need to wear them then I will. From the many pages that iv looked through I could see BP/W is huge on these forums but im still a little iffy about it since im so new to this.

Could the Ranger or the Knighthawk be fitted with a BP if i wanted to upgrade to doubles?

Thanks for all your help,
Patrick

The bladder/wings of the ranger can be transferred to the Zeagle back plate.

Also, if you stick with the BCD as is, the Zeagle is hugely flexible in adjustability, can be swapped out by component should the need arise later, and is the most durable recreational BC I've ever seen. Also, Zeagle is very good about backing up their warranty, should you need to (we had to send in a Ranger when a boat DM lifted the rig out of the water and tore the LP inflator - Zeagle honored their warranty and fixed it. I was amazed).

I'm not going to say anything bad about the Knighthawk, but if your diving environment goes from warm water to dry suit diving the Ranger is a very flexible option.

Yes, you can dive doubles with a Ranger, the LTD is pretty much setup for this type of conversion. I love the Ranger, about the only downside is that it is a tad large to pack for flights. As far as a good BCD that will go all around you can't go wrong, I have read that alot of people dive them in colder ares and 44lbs of lift is a nice solution.

I agree with PearlDiver the flexibilty of all of the Zeagle line to be adjusted for fit and comfort is what keeps me buying them and recommending them to my friends.

I lost weight, I was able to adjust my cumberbund in, I gained weight... back out, lost it again...etc. My wife had her shoulder straps and vest section of her Zena adjusted down after losing more weight than the straps would account for.

Try Zeagle Express is the most complete source for everything Zeagle Systems makes they are excellent to work with.

I know the Ranger can handle doubles, but does it have a plate for them to mount to, or is it the small brackets like the DiveRite Transpac uses? If the latter, it *may* not be as stable a platform as a plate, for what it's worth.

It uses the small brackets. This is fine for people who want to do an occasional dive with doubles, but for people who are wanting to do more than that, I would probably recommend getting a Zeagle backplate and mounting the Ranger bladder to that.

Thanks,

Scott

Thanks guys for all the input I think I might get the Ranger LTD, but the BP/W is still in the back of my mind. Would a BP/W be to advance for a new diver?

Thanks,
Patrick

I have both a Zeagle Ranger and a BP/W. As much as I love the Zeagle, I feel I would have been best served with getting the BP/W first. It's not too much for a new diver.
