Dear friends , this is my first post here. My name is Kostas and I live in Greece. I am a freediver and an apnea spearfisher , too. I noticed that this board has many specialists , so please , let me discuss my ear problem with you. I already have taken LubaScuba opinion , by a PM I send it to him.
I equalize using the Frenzel technique. I don't like Vaslava , this never worked for me anyway. My right ear is always very easy to equalize , never had problems with it. My left ear is the difficult one. My left e-tube needs more pressure to open , this is something I can easily understand even practicing Frenzel technique in the land.
Anway my real problem is that , often , after some free-divings my left ear is closing. My eustachian tube closed and it is very difficult to open. I guess that mucus is the cause of this. I always drink water before and while I dive (in the surface , of course). Lastly I make "washings" with physiological saline. The point is that only my left ear has the problem. E-tube closes (because of mucus?) and after 2 hours it inchmeal "opens"
Unfortunately , there aren't too many specialist doctors about diving in Greece. One doctor said me that warped diaphragm is the cause of all theese. Warped diaphragm don't let mucus leave of e-tube. Well , maybe he is wright , but some others with the same problem , who had a surgery in warped diaphragm , didn't had any improvement.
Please , notice again , that I am a freediver. I don't use tank and I can't dive "feet first". In freediving , you don't have enough time to equalize. If something goes wrong , you stop and try to another dive.
Now I practice BTV technique. Seems to work but needs much more practicing to work properly in a freediving. Even in BTV technique practicing , as I squeeze my throat musscles , my "good" ear opens with an impalpable "pop" , but the "bad" ear needs a whole jaw movement to "pop". I guess that is an anatomy result or maybe it is a bad technique result.
Well , does anyone has the same experience?
Does anyone knows a way to improve my "bad" ears equalization performance?
Thanks
