Apparently, there is some interesting cave/mine diving in Czech Republic and Poland too...

Also, check out the scubamedia.de Youtube account for all kinds of local German dive sites: https://www.youtube.com/c/ScubamediaDe/videos

Some of them do. But now you have the names, you can google them yourself. I know Nuttlar has an open water section that any certified diver can dive, and then there is the old submerged tunnel system for which you need to be cave certified I think.
For some of the quarries, they require Advanced OW and 100 dives or so. But it differs per site, really.

Thanks! That's all super helpful. I heard that Europe has a lot of mines to dive (opal mine in Slovakia, also), and that sounds like a blast to me. That gives me a lot to research!

I'm surprised that the police were so concerned with your diving cylinders. What issue(s) did they have with you driving with them?
My guess is : it was so unexpected for them they didn't know what to do with me. Was it allowed or not they had no idea. It took me about 20' to convince them, not really a big deal, but utterly unpleasant when you're tired and hoping to get in bed.

Ah, I see. That might be amusing in other circumstances, but I suppose not when you are in that moment!

You hit it right on the button !

Off topic : where does the Lovecraft quotation in your signature come from ? I'm quite a fan myself, but cannot place it.

It's from his short story "The White Ship". I'm chipping away at his complete works, and I love the imagery he evokes and language he uses. He had his faults, for sure, but his mythos and story-telling are fantastic. And, like my name says, I ascribe to (at least parts of) his philosophy.

If you're into cave diving and moving to Germany, maybe you can become a member.
