This is part 2 of 2. Part 1 is here: Linky

When we last left our heros, they were fighting the surge and currents of a rising storm along Anacapa island, shooting Nudi after Nudi.

TINY TOONS - And now a gallery of some of the babies we saw... From the unreasonably small to the impossibly teeny! SHHHH! They're sleeping...

Baby Sandy

Baby Hermi (with a Clownie newborn at 1:00)

Baby Moustache nudi

Another 4:00 Shadow. This one hiding on a Kelp Leaf

The smallest Trilinny ever. This guy was on a lobster trap, hiding in the fuzz. He was about 1/8" tall!

Check the bug on the nose of this little Sandy. This poor guy has lost purchase with his front foot and was literally swinging by his back foot!

This is a new one for me! The first time I've seen and shot one of these. Its a Ancula gibbosa. I thought it was a Polycera TriColor until I noticed it was kind of missing a color. This guy was the size of about half-a-Jelly Belly! Another shot of him is here: Gibby

This is my mystery Nudi - the last one Claudette found. I like that he's all red, white and blue, but I can't figure out what he is (enter Scott Fiji....) Two other shots of him are here and here.

We now return you to Normal sized Nudis!

What's a trip to Anacapa without a Fed Ex or two?

The Feddys out there are so big, its fun to shoot them with a shallower DOF to get a nice fade on them.

This is actually two Fed Ex on a huge pile of eggs. If you look closely behind the first guy you'll see some of the second one peeking around.

A face only a mother Fed Ex could love. This guy had a deformed oral tentacle. I've shot thousands of Fed Ex, and I've never seen one like this.

Black Dorids - After seeing their eggs everywhere on our first two dives we finally started to see them. They are so well camouflaged on this wacky fuzz that it took us two dives to see them. But once we were able to discern them from the fuzz, they were all over it. There are 6 in this shot.

Here's a close up of one hoovering the fuzz. See the bald spots on the branches where he's already munched?

Fatty, just chewin!

Another Black Dorid munching. And when he was done, did he ask one of his brothers to pass the fuzz? NO! He imparted a boardinghouse reach and just went and grabbed some more. Rude fellow.

SPECTACULAR images, Ken. Spec-Tac-u-Lar.

As we enjoyed lunch on the Spectre, I kept looking at the rice.

About 50% of the nudibranchs we found were smaller... a LOT smaller... than an individual rice grain. The little T. maculatas, the tiny trinileata, the petite Hermissenda... all were 3 to 7 millimeters long. And you kept spinning the camera around to show me the nudibranch filling the frame. Wow!! I was having a ton of fun diving, but part of me was craving the post-dive report to finally see the miraculous beauty up close.

It was a joyful day diving with the best buddy, ever. I'm amazed watching you sling the huge camera while scootering... and then sling the scooter while shooting... and then reverse it again and again while we explore and laugh and get gigglingly excited over all the discoveries. It's the most fun in the world.

Thank you!!

There goes my favorite pair of socks...

Yikes!!! How can you guys SEEEEEE them if they're that small, let alone capture such magnificent images?

Thank you Ken!!!!

And thank you Claudette, "The Nudi Wrangler".

You guys are so lucky to have dove this past weekend. It's nice to see that you two can move so tactically as a team. Dive conditions not permitting in one place, and you guys quickly move to find other alternatives. Pretty cool. I thought the conditions were going to be bad this weekend, so I made plans with the wife to head out of town. Thanks for sharing the pics and the report. Looks like you guys had a great time.

This weekend were dives 398, 399 and 400 that 'dette and I have done together since we formed Team CK in November 2005. We met in August '05 and did a few dives, but we didn't forge the team until that November. So we have this one-mind thing pretty much dialed in... ;)

We always have a back up plan.

Hope to see you in Avalon in a couple of weeks, buddy.

Awesome pictures as usual. Can't wait to see you guys again.

Thanks, DB.

Dr Bill - what is that green fuzz the Black Dorids are hoovering?

Thanks, Ken. I am going to see if I can make it to Avalon. I haven't dove there since my OW checkout dives. It would be fun to explore again there. It's been a privilege to dive with you and Claudette, and observe the teamwork firsthand. You two not only preach teamwork and unit integrity, but you live it and lead by example.

With the scoots, its a whole other place.

Its 4 minutes to the Valiant. Dude - think about that. It changes that entire dive.

Thanks, man. Hope you can make it out!
