Why dive a Full Face Mask?

Visibility - a FFM has a greater visual field than a traditional mask. Additionally, fogging is not an issue with Ocean Reef FFM's. The flow of dry air into the mask keeps your visor clear and dry.

Communication - with the addition of an underwater communication system, you can speak with other divers.

Security - A FFM's sturdy multi-strap system means it cannot be knocked askew while diving.

Comfort - No more jaw fatigue from holding a regulator in your mouth.

Specialty - Add another specialty to your diving repertoire with FFM training.

Accessories - There are lots of neat add-ons to try out with your FFM.

Protection - A FFM covers the whole face, protecting it from the elements.

Relaxation - A FFM allows you to breathe in a normal relaxed fashion.

Versatility - A FFM can be customized for a variety of diving conditions.

Warmth - A large percentage of your body's heat is lost through your head; warm head equals warmer body.

What are the differnces between this and the regular Neptune Space mask?

Really? This is pretty much a myth. Only reason why it is still around is that other body parts usually are covered and head is not. However exposing one's chest skin to equal amount of skin as head has would result in pretty much the same amount of heat loss.

Not really - since most people do have their core covered (clothes, wetrsuit, etc) most of the time and their head is most likely exposed - the statement that most body heat excapes through the head is accurate.

In a world where everyone is naked - the statement would be untrue - but since we typically wear clothes in this society - especially when heat loss is a potential issue - the statement remains factual and not a myth.

If everyone wore a hat every time they wore a shirt - again it would become a myth.
But thats not the case.

Head is typically exposed when core is not.

So more factual statement should be:

A large percentage of your body's heat is lost through uncovered skin.

No - since percentage wise - there is more "happening" in your head then in your hands, feet, etc. Bloodflow is greater to the head than to most other apendages of the body. The Core obviosuly has a greater volume of blood. If you assume that the Core is almost always covered - and that elbow to hand, knee to feet and neck to head are the 5 areas commonly exposed that would equal your "skin" - there is a greater amount of bloodflow to the head than any of the other mentioned areas.

Since bloodflow is greater in this commonly exposed area - more heat would be lost from the head than an arm, hand, foot, etc.

Higher volume of bloodflow to an area equals more heat which equals a higher potential for lost heat.

Thats why its so important to cover the core first (since all of your blood goes through your core)

BTW - all of this is based on some amount of " EXCERCISE" - like diving, walking, etc. A person at rest would be different

The faster the heart beats - the higher percentage of heat loss through the head. Direct relationship between cardiac output and heat loss through the head.

What is the price - what is the difference between this and neptune.

There are some small differences in the G.divers mask compared to the Neptune Space line. Let me start by saying that there are no differences on the regulator internally. This means that there is no performance loss in breathing. In order to make this mask more affordable to the recreational diver, we have replaced the directional exhaust valve with non-directional design(exhaust flows back only). We have redesigned our Surface Air Valve for the G.divers line and it is now offered as an accessory. This device allows the diver to breath surface air rather then tank air on the surface. The Mask is available in four color options. Finally, Ocean Reef offers a two year warranty with the G.divers full face mask. Pricing for the base G.divers model is $595.00 and $985.00 for the kit including the mask and our new communications unit. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

985 for a high quality mask with communications seems like it will help get more FFM with comms in the rec market - good idea

Is the 985 for a 2 way comm unit or 1.

Ive been trying to talk my buddy into getting into comms for our dives to increase safety - maybe a market offering like this will help.
