My dive history in Cozumel is:
2 dives with Sand Dollar- first dives after being certified, off a cruise ship
6 dives with Dive Paradise, first dive trip besides a cruise
68 dives with Aldora starting in October of 2015.

Will be there again for a quick trip this Friday afternoon unless there is a sinkhole or traffic jam between the Cancun Airport and Playa. In April I am going back to Roatan, not going to know what to do with an AL 80.

In RTB we dive with Octopus Dive School...Nuria always gets me the 90s. Give her a shout...she'll get you fixed up with the bigger tanks at no upcharge.

I wonder what happens when that one motor stops?

LMAO Actually it is one of the criteria I always use when selecting a dive operator. Safe SCUBA is not having a single point of failure. . .

How come the rest of the world can do recreational dives on an AL80 but so many Coz divers can't?

Because in Coz I want to get the most out of each dive. Due to the length of the trips out and back, two dives per day seems to be the norm. Some people manage to squeeze in a third or even a fourth/night dive, but it isn't easy if I want to leave time to go out for an evening stroll, eat some great Mexican food, and have a margarita. In some other dive destinations, the dive sites are closer, they offer four dives a day, and there's not much reason to leave the resort. Coz is the kind of place where I would rather do two longer dives than three or four shorter dives.

Personally, I would be trying to convince the rest of the world to make larger tanks as easily available as they are in Cozumel :)
I'm with @Lorenzoid and much prefer fewer longer dives than more dives that are shorter (relatively).

Why doesn't everyone drive Ford Escorts?

I started diving with Aldora because of my poor air consumption. I have improved since then and now enjoy the longer dives. It is nice to have options.

How long IS the run from dock to dive out of Coz? Time/distance range is all I'm looking for.

Air = minutes.

I don't think it has anything to do with not being able to dive an aluminum 80. I think it has more to do with longer dive times. Even with my air consumption, I am getting 80 to 90 minute dives starting over 80 and 90 feet with the deepest around 127.

I know of 2 of 3 operators that use the 120cf tanks, Aldora, Living Underwater, and 1 other. With the extra air, you can dive to the air consumption of the first one to hit 700psi which will always be longer with a larger tank. Depending on the Aldora Boat you are on, that is usually at least 70 minutes for deep dives, usually more. I'm paying to dive, I feel I get more for my dollar with the larger tanks. I also never want to be the guy that forces everyone else to end their dive because I blew through my air.

We just returned from Roatan and there were 30 minute dives due to divers with higher air consumption hitting 700 psi. Bigger tanks mean longer dives. That's what we are there for.

We have dove with people that can make an 80 last a long time, that's great. Some damn near have gills, hell, one lady from Canada had more air when the finished that when she started! (Slight exaggeration) even though my air consumption is higher than some, lower than many, I just don't see how you can have too much air on a dive.....but I can see how you can have too little.

April 16 can't get here fast enough!!

"Can't" has nothing to do with it. The point is that for the same dive, I have 55% more air than the AL80 guys. That means a longer dive or deeper average depth, or both. More for your money. You get three dives worth of bottom time for two dives money. It's also great to not need a weight belt, or very little. I wish all operations used HP steel tanks.
