Wife and I have Uwatec Aladin Prime dive computers, and have used them on-and-off for 14 years. They work fine and I see no reason to replace them.
I've changed the batteries a few times over the years with no problems. I never replaced the o-rings.
Needing new batteries again, I decided I should probably replace the neglected o-rings. Much to my annoyance, they are shockingly expensive! It's not that I can't afford $20 each for the kit, but I find it objectionably expensive.
They are available on ebay and amazon for less (around $10), but the pictures imply that they are not OEM. Makes me wonder how critical the brand/type/quality of the o-ring really is...
If I'm going to spend $40 bucks, I'm inclined to buy a big assorted pack of scuba o-rings instead.
Am I over-thinking this? Are these o-rings made of some super magical material and non-standard size? What's wrong with an off-the-shelf o-ring, some silicon lube, and a Energizer coin battery?
