For strictly rec diving handheld lights, how often should I be replacing the o-rings? I lube them 1-2 times a year, doing between 30 and 40 dives a year starting 2 years ago, fewer before that.

Thanks,
Erik

I would lightly lube with every battery change. In my view replacement depends on o-ring size and how the light is stored. Do you store with full pressure on o-ring or do you back off the pressure? I've used the o-rings in my strobes for many years before replacing. The cover is see thru so I can see how well the o-ring is sealing the battery compartment. If I couldn't inspect this way I would replace more frequently.

Thanks for the reply. I store them with full pressure, which I never thought about until now. The only real inspection I do is looking them over with the magnifying app on my phone.

The oldest of the lights is about 7 years, the other 3 are 1-4 years, and have never changed them. Might be time on the oldest.

I haven't changed the o-rings since forever, but I inspect and lube them frequently. If you get sand on the rings often, I'd probably replace them every 2 - 3 years.
