The Chicago Sun Times is about as well trusted and respected for its accuracy and in-depth reporting as the National Enquirer.

I would imagine that for an extra $200, PADI would take you for your "Underwater Munitions" certification.

Wouldn't you think that terrorists would go after a target which would inflict a large amount of victims? Someone please tell me where a scuba diver can place explosives that even has the potential to cause mass casualties? What, are they going to swim up the NY sewer system and blow it up? Or are they going to bomb a Mississippi river boat? OOOOOh, I know, they must be after all those kayakers on the Western North Carolina white water rivers!!!
As you seem to want to know these kind of targets that places you under high suspicion - of course the media always seem to brainstorm and do the homework for the terrorists by providing their 24 hour news coverage of what they think could happen. Ok maybe that is a stretch as news folks might not be the smartest cookies - or at least the local anchors here look like they would be just as at home working at McD's. ;)

BTW - can we stop the generalisations of those from the Middle East necessarily being terrorists? There are plenty from all over the place, lets not discriminate ;)

You mean the terrorist news people have infiltrated Micky D's?

One thing to remember about new laws and regulations, it is not whether an attack is immenent, practical or even possible. What matters is that some guy in a suit somewhere can say that he saved the day by lobbying for new laws.

If twenty arabs were taking a class together and never stopped talking about how much they hate America and how they cant wait to get to heaven to be with their twenty wives, I would say that is pretty suspicious.

I don't see why they would even bother getting certified. They are not going to be concerned with safety, so I would assume they would just get some gear and practice using it. Either that or they could have an instructor training recruits in their training camps. It is not like flying a plane.

let them bring it on.

Yes, that vacant stare you get from the folks there is not in fact what you think it is, it is in fact them with plotting on their mind, there will be a mass poisoning of big mac's synchronized by all the employees. With over 99 billion burgers sold, how quickly do you think they could take over this country by knocking out folks tucking into big macs? :11:

It's all starting to make sense now, the blank stares, is Pepsi Ok?, when you asked for a Cola, would you like to supper size that? must be code for "I'm a terrorist, come join us". Yes it's getting clearer now. ;)

also, don't forget Al Quaeda has been recruiting non-Middle Eastern operatives
to make it easier for them (less suspicion) to operate in the west.

so while Al Quaeda's origins and leadership remain Arabic, their ranks are now
made up of Uzbeks, Pakistanis, Egyptians, Georgians, you name it...

so.... next time, it may not be your stereotypical terrorist working for Al Quaeda who
makes the news

and, of course, it goes without saying that the overwhelming majority of all
Middle Eastern people are NOT terrorists

Actually this has been a concern since immediately after 9/11. I sincerely hope we dont get to questioning every "suspicious character". This was one reason why the
laser pointer thread threw me a curve.

By the way...what constitutes a suspicious character?

a suspicious character is anyone deemed suspicious by me.....didnt they tell you that yet ;)
