dlndavid:
I think you are right Andy. People forget WE are the government.

Do you really think so?

I don't think that is still the case if it ever was.

After seeing the way elections are run and ruined I am forced to believe that our officials are "selected" not elected and our level of control is only enough for us to cling to the fantasy that we are really in control.

It is funny, in Ukraine, an election was condemmed and set aside because we didn't like the result and there were signs of fraud. However, with problems in the USA, the SAME PEOPLE say, "The election is over, get over it and move on."

I don't know, maybe you ARE one of the millionares and billionaires who do actually run the country but I am not.

Dearman:
If you want to stop terrorism, blanket coverage of their gruesome deaths, generation of public humiliation and scorn for their cause are the only way to slow recruitment. .

no, that would noly sanctify the glorious martyrs of the Jihad and increase recruitment.

.
pipedope:
It is FAR better to ignore them publicly.
Never show the face of any terrorist or suspected terrorist on TV. Never show them dead. Present their attacks as accidents and 'minor'. Cut off the feedback that they are doing anything.
At the same time you arrest those that you can, bring them to trial, convict and punish. Those who are a major threat that cannot be arrested may have to be eliminated, but do it quietly, no press, they just vanish.

Terrorists feed on publicity, cut off the food.

yep
.

I disagree with this.

And, might I add, if martyrdom is part of their motivation, pursue life-imprisonment rather than a death penalty?

Not that I'm against the death penalty, but if the guilty see it as a reward...

Verrrrrrry Funny Andy-My first laugh of the day.Thanks.
H2Andy:
top ten ways to spot a terrorist undergoing dive training:

10. they keep saying: so when i rig the the target with explosives... er... reach 500
psi... what fin stroke do you reccomend i use to get back to the boat in a hurry?

9. they keep asking you when your LDS is going to offer a class on rebreathers,
cause they "don't make any bubbles, right?"

8. keep asking about under-water fighting techniques they saw on a James Bond
movie, and want to know "the most efficient way to cut another diver's hose"

7. they ask you, "can you scuba dive without learning how to swim? cause
i've lived in a desert all my life."

6. they have a camouflage wet suit

5. they drop out when the instructor reveals that he or she is a deputy with the
local Sheriff's Department

4. they hit the floor and scream "air strike!" anytime someone drops a tank in
the back.

3. first question they ask is, "so when do we learn about explosives?"

2. the credit card used to pay for the courses is registered to
the United Front for the Decapitation of the Evil Satan America

1. they get really nervous when the tactless guy in the class says "Boy, you
sure look like a terrorist" and laughs

I had no intentions of responding but what on earth could anybody do ? I know what could be done but not at your local dive site. What could they do it would look kinda different if your at a dive site and two dudes use re breathers and carry a satchel into the lake then leave without it ? But that would be so in your face as a diver you would notice. But if they where to do that you would think they would do it when nobody is around say Monday morning but not at a crowded dive site.

As I am thinking about it ,it would be a good idea to keep an open mind towards others that have no interest in other divers and are waiting to get in the water after everybody leaves and again are not interested in conversation and are dressed all in black UM is DIR a front. :D Those types of people allways make you think twice.

Keep an eye out for "roaming bubbles" that have no dive flag marking their presence!!!

cancun mark:

listen, terrorism is just a form of guerilla warfare (a particularly effective form of it) and the basis of geurilla warfare is that you use the general populace as camoflage. So, the most suspicious character of all would be the one that is not suspicious looking at all.

.
Remember just because you are not paranoid does'nt mean someone is NOT out to get you!

Firebrand:

yes... and i believe that all boat crews, whether private or for hire, should be
armed with granades.

when they see suspicious bubbles, they should lob a few granades in.

if any body surfaces, they should assume evil intent and strafe at will!

you gotta fight fire with fire ;)

now, i realize we might wipe out Scuba as a sport, but heck, there
won't be any underwater terrorist threat then, will there? :eyebrow:

i think that terrorists using scuba is laughable but what about oil platforms it seems like an oil spill could cause a lot of trouble and boats go their all the time
