I got some oxidation from my SS washers from my STA bolts on my AL BP, its not a problem, the oxide is a protective layer.

Sounds like the easiest solution. The rubber can be a pain to deal with, but I have only put together 3 sets, so I am still entrenched in the learning curve...

W/ inner tube rubber, do same as w/ tape , glue the rubber inside of the bands, use contact cement to hold rubber in place. Once you have bands on, it doesnt matter if the cement still holds or not.
