MaresMan,

Hope you don't mind:

1) What's a "PITA"?

2) Any webpages which gives out manuals or tip or "how to-s" to service, repair or maintain the Airtrims??

Thanks.

Regards,
Calvin

Calvinator,

PITA = Pain In The A**. For years I have hated the Hose and always thought there had to be a better way.

As far as maintenance is concerned, general maintenance practices are fine. Then add your yearly checkout. So far I have had no problems. I have not found any "How To" manuals or websites as yet. I just kinda buddied up with the tech at the shop and watched. Very simple design on the inside. If I do find a maintenance and repair manual, I will certainly post it.

Dive Smart; Dive Safe
Enjoy the ride

What's wrong with some water in one's BC bladder? After a week or two of 2 or 3 dives per day, I can usually empty a pint or less of salt water from my BC. So what?
if you clean after each dive or each day (as you should )you wouldnt have that water :11:

I have a Dacor (Mares) Nautica with air trim. It works great. I dove with it numerous times and it has never had water in the bladder. It does take time to get use to when inflating and deflating, I was reaching for a hose to raise above my head to dump air the first couple of dives. It is easy to clean by removing one of the dump valves to add water. The only thing that I do not like is the location of the self inflation tube, and the small diameter of the tube.

Chris
I also have the Nautica, I always have water in the bladder. I find the oral inflator difficult to use, it reminds me of trying to blow up a difficult balloon. I had to do it in the rescue class and it wasn't easy for me. The airtrim system works great though.

Is it so difficult??

Anyway, anyone knows which website sells any of the Mares Airtrim (not the HUB) with XS size please. I've search a couple of popular websites, but most of them ran out of stock. Replies are very welcomed.

Finally got my girlfriend into the water this weekend with her new Extremelle BC. She loved it. She hadn't been diving since last August and she had her bouyancy under control in no time flat. It allowed her to concentrate on enjoying the dive instead of trying to figure out the BC.

So the Airtrim systme works great for her.

Just wondering, did she take a refresher class? Almost a year without a single dive, and as you stated in an earlier post, she has confidence issues. Glad she did well with her buoyancy, but if something was to go wrong, does she have the skills to respond?
Just a thought...

She is still a bit too tentative for my taste when diving. She still has the confidence issues. I give her all my magazines to read, and talk with her about 'what if' situtations all the time.

She didn't take a refresher class. I took her in the quarry and we worked on some skills together before starting the first dive, and I had her practice several others during our three dives (I am not an instructor though).

If something goes wrong. :11: ...? I am concerned she will bolt to the surface like a polaris missle.

We will be hitting the quarry a few more times before our trip to the Keys in August, and I might get her to do a dive with an actual instructor if her skills are still a concern.

Calvin-many feel that your two choices are flawed. What advantage over a conventional BC do these offer? I've seen exactly one experienced diver so far in one of these rigs (Seaquest Fusion). Diver in question also owns a dive shop and coinscidentally the Fusion is the newest most expensive BC in the shop. I also haven't seen this guy go below 20 feet or stay in more than 15 minutes either. These integrated inflators are a solution to a non-existant problem. Instead of relying on tricked-up gadgetry practice your skills. If you do decide to buy one anyway, be prepared to take a heavy loss at resale if it doesn't work out. Good used scuba gear sells cheap and unwanted used gear sells for next to nothing.

Hi! First of all the Seaquest Fusion is NOT one of this rigs.
It has normal valves from a dry-suite for inflating and normal manual dump valves, for deflating. As for me - quite stupid construction..

I have done 50 dives with my Mares Morpos Twin (10+ in cold water - +7 +10 C)
AirTrim always worked great - I feel myself much more comfortable than with a normal inflator...

These systems are as an automatic car gearbox - more sophisticated inside, but more friendly and comfortable for a user.

Never heard about any accidents caused by Mares AirTrim or Cressi FCS.

Good luck!
