Going to be taking our first dive trip to Coco view next June or July and I am looking for a little help on airfare. How far in advance should we book airfare to get the best rates? We will be leaving from Phoenix.

Lots of advice to be had here (Hopefully DandyDon will chime in), but you should also have this discussion with the air desk at Roatan Charter.

I always seem to pay full boat, so I'm done talking :eyebrow:

hey - dandy don sent me this link - we are trying to get to Roatan also - hope it helps

Yeah, that's a nice tool I learned from someone else here. I didn't like it at first, but after you spend a few minutes (long time for us instant grat folks) getting to know it - it is great.

A year or more in advance, you won't find much. Many airlines will not book that far out and if they do - it's regular fare. Looks like $1000+ for now. You can start watching tho.

Kayak.com is a great site too. You can set up fare alert emails for as many date pairs as you want, get an email every morning with the list, renew monthly.

Some like to also shop for fares to the mainland with connections to RTB. I never have cared for that, too much to go wrong and too time consuming, but if it saved me a lot of money - I might.

good luck

It's been steadily 700 - 800 for SLC to RTB for over a year now. It doesn't seem to move much with only two airlines serving it. I'm guessing you can get cheap flight between Phoenix and Houston(IAH) so once you get below about 9 months I would just keep an eye on Continental between IAH and RTB. We we're hoping to do our second trip next May, but now that May is high season we may have to re-evaluate.

Thanks for everyone help. I gues I will starrt looking in a few months. I made reservations for Coco view for July 7th through the 14th for 2012. We are so excited. How is the weather at this time?

That's a great time to visit...really WARM! We just got back on the 14th - water temp. was 84 :D

Wow, That seems real nice. What exposure protection did you go with?

Yes that does seem nice~ because it is. Understand that 84° (and higher) is fairly common on the South side. Where exactly were you going to be diving?

No matter the water temp- only YOU can determine what exposure protection that you will need. In 84° I do it in a bathing suit, my wife uses a 3/5.

Also it depends on the volume/quantity of diving you will do... Thus- where are you diving? That will help more than anything.
