It was the real deal. I paid the Museum in Espalion to fly it over in 1997(?) for an Historical Diving Society event in Santa Barbara where I dove with Jean Michel Cousteau in the training pool at SB City College. From there we took it to the DEMA show in Anaheim where it was on display in my booth.

In 1995 I had the Deane helmet in my booth at the San Francisco DEMA show. I even had miniature Deane pins made, which we sold as a fundraiser for the HDS and they are now collector items.

Diving has been good to me and as you can see I had a lot of fun along the way.

I saw a Deane hat around 1973 in the Siebe Gorman brag hall. Is that the same one? I read that it burned down and destroyed everything in the museum room.

It was restored with new glass is my understanding
