My wife and I stayed at the Catalonia Yucatan in Puerto Aventuras a couple of years ago and loved the place. It's not real big and does have a sister hotel next door that allows restaurant shares. Got a deal that included air fare for about $800 each. We like being able to walk to the village and enjoy the restaurants and shops. We dove with an operation in the village, very professional, small boats, very experienced and laid back divers. The diving is a bit different than Cozumel so don't expect the same kind of reefs. Of course the cenotes on the Mayan Riviera are stunning. I dove with Aquanauts and found them to be a solid dive operation. We also did a tour to one of the ocean parks and it was well worth the day trip. One advantage to Puerto Aventuras, it's a bit of a gated community and taxis, vans, buses all go through a security gate, so it gives you a bit more of a secure feeling. Although I have never had a problem in Mexico in 40 years of travelling Baja and the Mainland. We did miss staying in PDC because of the Starbucks.... ;>)
