Okay I am a newly qualified dive (Padi OW) and I love it, and do not ever want to have to stop. However I am 53 years old, so I am wondering how long can I expect to be diving for? Can we get some idea of people my age, and more importantly above my age ? Who is the oldest person on this site ?

When I got certed earlier this year I too was wondering how long I could realistically participate in this activity and then I ran into "Bob"...

Bob turned 70 this year, has been diving for some 50+ years and is in Great shape, I mean this guy is still Cut ... (well Cut for a 70 yr old, but still real impressive)

It gives me hope... you dont Have to lose it... eat right... take care of yourself, and dive for a long time :)

Well, I'm going to be 62 in a couple of months and I still dive for work and pleasure. It's all up to you and what shape you keep yourself in.

Greetings Eddie the pink once again. While your thread has just begun, my instructor is going to be 57 this year and he is in better shape than I was when I was 30! I have found the same for myself, diving encourages a healthy life style that directly effects our physical state. So the answer to some of your question is it really depends on you and your life style. Diving promotes a active, safe, life style but we also have to pay the piper so to speak. Our family histories, existing conditions all factor in the equation.
Personally, my goal is to be diving when I am 70+. If my health and $$ hold out!
I have met divers in their 60's and 70's and they are still having a blast so why can't we? I have seen people who diving has transformed their lives in a very dramatic physical way. So age is not the biggest factor in determining how long we can dive!
I can not wait to hear what some of the others have to say, I hope to dive as long as I can remember my name and be a safe buddy! Great question and safe diving to you!
CamG Keep diving....keep training....keep learning!

Going on 62, diving for nearly fifty years... have done far more dives and much deeper, technical ones recently than I ever did in my teens or twenties. Of course I don't remember those days very well!

I'll be 62 in a couple of weeks. If I have my cave and trimex certs by 64 I'll be satisfied.

Your card is good forever and you can dive as long as it makes you happy.

At some point when you get old and crusty and sick, you might not want to dive, or one of your dives might injure or kill you, but that's really your decision.

My OW instructor was in his 70's. My Deep/Wreck instructor was in his 60's and I'm 51 and recently got my DiveCon certification.

I'll be 70 soon. I started diving about two and a half years ago. Have nearly 150 ocean dives, around 35 of which are wreck dives, and wish I lived near the ocean so I could afford more. I figure that I should be able to go till I'm around 80 or more if things hold up. We'll see.

Wonderful, bloody wonderful, in a matter of minutes you guys have given me a wonderful feeling, I am reasonably fit, never had a major illness, eat the right stuff, and would be willing to add, change, or delete anything to go diving, and now I beleave what my wife is telling me " I could continue to do many more qualifications along the way".......THANK YOU
