Im just wondering if there are any other affects besides the regular ones from smoking that affect people who smoke pot. Im not insisting I do. . .im just curious

I'd suggest posting this over on the Decompression forum as it's populated with diving doctors.

I am not educated in dive medicine, but I can offer that I have refused one student based on them showing up to a dive stoned. Just seems like a bad idea...

Being narked at 0 fsw? :D

Um, well, what effects does pot have on you above water? Reduced mental capacity, bad judgement, fried brain cells, etc.

Now, imagine yourself on a dive. Let's say you've just had a nice long smoke before you get in. Then on the bottom, still buzzed, you get tangled up. Or run out of air. Or get lost. Or silt out the site. Or meet a non-harmful shark. Or anything out of normal.

How are you going to handle those situations compared to if you had a clear head and your complete mental powers?

Don't smoke pot.

LoL I wasnt saying if you smoke it before you dive, thats just plain stupid. I was asking in the long run. Plus Ive done it a few times(rarely). My dive buddie does all the time and im curious if it may affect him.

"curious if it may affect him...."

Hmm. Well, it affects you above water doesn't it? Remember pressure magnifies the effect of all things. And since pot messes with your brain functions in the long and short run, yes, it would most definitley affect you.

I dove with a pot smoker once, and I sure didn't like it. Definitley stay away from that stuff!!!!

Bob Ray...who owned Ginnie Springs in the early 80's claimed that people would pass when under the influence at depth (30+)

I think he's asking about after the dive...like many divers do with alcohol. If you have actually smoked pot you would know that it alters the mind no way near the amount of alcohol. Again, no one ever asked about smoking before doing the dive. Not saying that I smoke pot but Tommy Chong and the likes have never done the pot smoking community any good as a result of the way they betray the average pot smoker (in the name of making a dollar). Alcohol gets all the glory.
Back to the question, again, I think his question regards post dive, not pre. If your mind was so sharp you could have figured that out from reading his reply to your post. I could (not saying that I smoked anything).:)
